Asa:

“Asa!”

“Shhh he’s asleep! Didn’t you hear what the doctor said, he has to rest!” I heard a voice say

I tried to open my eyes…the light was bright and I was lying down. I was confused. Where was I? I tried to make memory. Then everything came to me; he running, the hitting, the falling down. I saw two people in front of me. Clariss’s dad and Robert. Then I remembered… Clariss! I tried to sit down as fast as I could.

OUCH! I squealed. Every inch of my body hurt. Terribly. I looked down to see my feet. One leg of mine was broken, and the rest of my body was bruised. I had a small scar on my right cheek. Everything hurt. I felt like if I was going through puberty again. Miserable.

“Whoa there buddy!” said Clariss’s dad said “Be careful, gently now.”

I said the first thing that came to my mind.

“Where’s Clariss? How is she? Is she okay?” I asked desperately

“Calm down… and yes, she’s fine. She woke up two days ago. She’s been having therapy with some doctors to recover herself.” He said

“Wait what? What do you mean two days? Therapy?” I gave him a confused look

“Look, this is what happened. You might have been running on your way to the hospital when an ambulance hit your hip and fell hit your head and fell unconsciously. Your leg broke and you seemed to lose contact for two days. Clariss woke up two days ago; remember the call I made you? Well when she did she kind of lost some memory and doctors are working with her, doing everything they can to have her back. She didn’t recognize Robert and when I mentioned your name she didn’t know who you were. Maybe, in a while when she sees your face… she might remember you. But, for the meantime please take it easy on her.”

I got hit with a ton of bricks. Great.

I nodded and closed my eyes. I tried to remember the last time I saw Clariss normal. How she was before anything of this happened. There she was, smooth silk skin, with big hazel eyes. Sometimes green, sometimes brown, either way she was perfect. Then, her hair brown and wavy, a little below her shoulders; her big radiant smiles with two marked dimples on each cheek. Her lips always pink. The way she talked, oh that angelic voice! My ears caught off guard always with her soothing voice. I loved her. I missed her. I missed when none of this happened.

I remembered how we met at school. Her stuff fell, and I hurried off to help her. Ever since the first day of school I had liked her. Cupid had struck his bow straight to my feelings. I remembered how much we talked and laughed, and how I felt like a ‘Dad’ whenever she brought her sisters along to our walks to the park. How I used to think she looked so adorable pushing a stroller.

I missed New York. As soon as she recovered I would talk to her and convince her to come back. I felt homesick. Italy is great and all but I missed my mum and Loxie. I looked at the calendar. My eyes bugged out. It seems that we missed our flight back to NY, three weeks ago. We had been in Italy for almost two months now. I checked the clock and the date.
