Alright, here's the next part, though I really do need an actual cover please!!!! Enjoy :)
“Candice, you’re sure she knows?” I prodded the beautiful brunette beside me again, still a little surprised and doubtful about the whole situation. In response to the question I’d asked her at least fifty times in the last hour it’d taken to drive here, she whipped her glossy mane back, and full-on glared at me. Her neon green eyes were narrowed in an unfitting snarl on her breathless face, but I felt an uncomfortable lump rise into my throat when I detected not just anger, but humility and the cold slap of rejection from disbelief. She thought I had no support for her idea, because we all knew that Aphrodite’s children were not known for their intelligence. And she knew that the only thing she was good for was keeping Carson calm and coordinating our outfits. The thought that I was going to throw down and stomp on the one glorious idea that she had thought of herself was making her feel like I was stomping on her.
I received her glare, turned down my eyes in submission, and forced my voice softer. “I just meant, are you sure she knows? If you haven’t seen her in a while-“
“She knows,” she cut me off briskly, walking with pointedly hard footsteps toward the fashionably blue glass doors, “There’s no one else on the planet that could possibly know other than her.”
A bunch of names popped up on my tongue, but I squashed them back down, and followed her reluctantly into the tall building. I glanced distastefully at the obnoxious figurines posing at the store window, made out of pink plastic and showing off their Barbie-sized boobs and butts in some of the most prostitute-ish outfits I had ever seen. Glittering mirrors and chandeliers twinkled in the background, the usual white crystals complimented with black, blue, and red ones. Tiles made up of the various swirling colours of rocks were suffocated beneath the mannequins’ death-trap stiletto heels, camouflaging the only part of the store I liked into the background as well.
The blue glass door swung open, releasing the booming bass of some modern hit single, with a computer singing and repeating itself until you wanted to scream at the thing to shut up. It smelled like sweat, perfume, and stylized fabric, attendants all with similar fashion styles strutting throughout the store aisles. Candice screeched and ran for a wall of shining dresses, all club-sized and shorter than Al’s buzz cut. Ree sighed and slumped forward, matching my mood exactly. The second I stepped into the store my left eye started to twitch, signalling the on-comings of a headache.
“Okay, someone go get her back before she tries to buy out the whole store,” a boy’s voice grumbled from behind me, foreshadowing Caleb’s stormy arrival. His pale face was even more washed-out in the harsh lighting of the store, and pronounced the dark shadows beneath his eyes. He blinked slowly, raising his hand to rub at his eyes once before stifling a yawn, and turning to walk farther into the store. I followed after him silently; admittedly a little worried at his appearance. He’d only pretended to sleep in the car, I could tell by the way his shoulders had been so tight. That, combined with the weird and deranged reaction he’d had towards Cerberus made me watch him more than I watched the curious store employees, their black-eyeliner-ringed eyes staring blankly at us like we were from another world without fashion. I grinned sourly at that for a second, allowing my dirty and tangled bloody hair swish faster to gain their horrified attention. Let them have nightmares about them looking like me then.
Caleb had gotten too far ahead of me, and I walked quickly over to where he was, regrouping with the others. Carson had managed to pull Candice away from the tempting dresses, who was looking sullenly at the floor. I felt a flicker of embarrassment at being the one they had to wait for, instead of the other way around, but it passed almost as soon as it came.
