The Adventures of James and Lily Potter

Chapter 4 - The Hogwarts Express

James:

As James strolled through the passageway of the train, he noticed that all the carriages were packed, until he came across one with only two boys. Both boys looked his age and friendly enough, so James opened the glass door.

"Hallo" He said, "Can I sit here?"

"Sure" said one of the boys.

He had dark brown curly hair, where as the other had almost blonde hair and was clearly quite tall. The boy with blonde hair was facing his lap, like he was afraid of getting in trouble. When he finally made eye contact with James, he noticed that he had a small scar just above his jaw.

"I'm James Potter. What are your names?" He inquired

"I'm Remus Lupin" Said the shy boy, immediately looking out of the window.

The boy with curly hair looked at this action and then turned to James

"I'm Sirius Black. I'm in the first year and I'm very excited"

"I completely agree," James said "I've waited for this my whole life, my father was so excited when he heard I was accepted"

Sirius suddenly made an uncomfortable face when James said the work 'parents'. There was a pause until he broke it.

"Do you guys want to hear a joke" He asked

"Yes, I'd love to! Let's see what you got" James replied

"What did the wizard order at the hotel?"

"What?" Remus mumbled

"Broom Service!" Sirius blurted out

James rolled his eyes and gave Sirius a friendly punch on the arm, but still laughing at the corny joke. James could even hear Remus chuckling under his breath.

"That joke is worthy of a muggle" Remus said, and the boys laughed some more.

It was at this point another boy opened the door. He was short, with a light brown mullet, slightly over weight and was hunching. To top it off he had pimples and unfortunate moles around his face. The boys stopped laughing and stared.

"Good morning, how may we help you?" Remus called out

"Um... I... I was wondering.. if..." He stubbled

"Could sit with us?" James finished his sentence "That's fine. Come sit next to Remus"

"Hi" Remus said to him, holding out his hand "That's James," James smiled "And that's Sirius" Sirius nodded to the boy.

After a period of time, the boy finally brought up the courage to add "I'm Peter. Peter Pettigrew"

Lily:

Lily and Severus were lucky enough to find a carriage to themselves, and they plopped themselves down next to the window. Lily waved her beloved parents good bye, even before the train left, and only stopped when they the train had gone so far they were just specs in the distance.

Soon enough, a girl with short brown hair knocked on the glass door

"Can I come in?" she mouthed Lily pointed at the seat next to her. The girl skipped in, smiling

"I'm Alice," She said "What are your names"

"I'm Lily, and this is Severus"

Severus said a faint "Hello" but then distanced himself and stared out the window. Severus was a shy boy, and did not like to make much conservation with overexcited people such as Alice.

"So," Lily said, looking back at Alice "Is this your first year?"

"Yes, it is, I'm so excited to be going, I hear such wonderful things. Oh if only the train would go faster! I want to see the school, and find out what house I'm in"

"House?" Lily asked. For some reason Severus had never mentioned this to her, she wondered why.

"Yeah, your house. The place where you live, support during games, eat wit, etc. You chosen by a hat, at least that's what I've been told. There's Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin - I think I'm going to be in Gryffindor." Alice said some other things on Hogwarts, but Lily's attention was focused on Severus. He was acting quite strange - his forehead was sweaty and he kept rubbing his hands against his lap. Lily was a bit startled for two reason; Firstly, Severus never mentioned the houses to Lily, and now he was acting weird - Secondly, what was Severus hiding?
