Lily:

There were only a few people left, and Lily could feel her stomach growling. It seemed like forever since she ate on the train, and the fact that Severus wasn't in her house didn't help.

Lily kept on trying to make eye contact with Severus - they always had a way of communicating without words - but she was constantly being interrupted by James. It didn't help that Severus was staring at his lap, almost as if he wanted to breakdown and cry.

"So where are you from" He asked

"Oh um, Cokeworth" She replied shyly, her attention still towards Severus.

"Oh I've never been there before, are there many witch and wizards where you live" James asked

"Um, not many... I don't think. I think it's just me and another family" Lily said, a little more impatiently, trying to give James the hint that she was busy. James didn't take they hint

"That sucks, so there must be a lot of muggles where your from" James said, trying to get Lily's attention.

Lily decided to give up, it was hopeless staring at him and waiting, she might as well make friends with James.

"I'm sorry James, I got distracted, what did you say?"

"I said that it must be annoying having a bunch of muggles where you live"

Lily was taken aback - what was wrong with muggles? Her family were muggles, and they were very nice.

She turned to him "What's the problem with muggles?" She asked sharply

James looked a little startled "Oh, um, noth-"

But it was just as James said that he was interrupted by an old man with a long white beard stood up.

"Good evening, welcome first years to Hogwarts, and welcome back to all returning students, I am Professor Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts" He said, in a deep, rich voice. There was something comforting and warm about it.

"I will talk to you about this school year, but first, we must eat!" As he said that, a variety of colourful, delicious food appeared on all the tables. Lily's jaw dropped in shock, as did all the others first years.

"Dig in!" Professor Dumbledore said, and all the students grabbed at the food in excitement. Lily could see James's plate was already filled with food, but Lily decided not to be to greedy with the food, but oh! How good the food tasted! However, while Lily was eating, she couldn't help thinking about what James said. Should she be ashamed of her family? Lily shook it off, even though her family didn't have her magic abilities, that didn't make her superior.

When dinner had been consumed, Professor Dumbledore stood up once more.

"Welcome again new students, and welcome back to everyone else" He said with is arms wide open, almost like he was giving the great hall a big hug.

"Now, before you go off to bed, I would like to discuss some important rules"

As he said this Lily sat up straight and paid even more attention, and in contrast, James slouched and fiddled with the table.

"First, the woods are strictly prohibited to all students! Also, students must not go walking around at night !"

James smirked at this comment, knowing that he had the power of his invisibility cloak.

"And I would like to remind students that any dark magic of any kind will lead to expulsion - no exceptions. And with that in mind, it is time to go to your common rooms and off to bed! Goodnight students!"

And with that, all the students rose from their seats, except the puzzled first years. Soon enough, an older looking boy walked towards them and said "Hallo, first years, my name is Finn, and I am a prefect for Gryffindor"

"Hi Finn" The fist years said shyly.

"Well, wait are you waiting or?" he asked looking at them "Get up, and I'll take you to the common room"

Lily jumped from being startled by James hopping out of his seat so quickly.

James:

As the first years walked through the castle there were many "Ooos" and "Aahhs". Even James couldn't help it, his excitement had gotten the best of him.

There was a grand hall, filled with staircases and paintings, and as his dad had explained, the staircases moved. It was everything James had imagined, but better. The castle was vibrant, and filled with an energy buzzing around all the students. As James walked up the stairs, the paintings tried to engage in conversations, which took many students by surprise, but James gave a very cool "Hey" and moved on.

Eventually, James and the rest of the first years reached the seventh floor, and were being lead to an oil painting with a big fat lady on it.

Finn, stood confidently, and spoke the password

"Chocolate Frog", and with this, the painting swung to the side, revealing an opening, which Finn walked through, as well as the eager first years.

There were beautiful tapestries on the walls, desks, couches, and a fireplace. The room had a sense of warmth, comfort and acceptance, the feeling James had expected.

"This is the common room" Finn said, "Here you can do you homework, free activities and just generally hang out. The boy's dormitories are upstairs, to your left, and the girls are upstairs, but to your right."

James smiled and nudged Sirius. Sirius smiled back, and both were happy they had made a friend. James then looked to Lily, who was nervously picking at her fingernails.

"All your items are in your room, now it's time to get ready for bed". With that, the students rushed up the stairs, curious to see their new rooms.

As James, Sirius, and Remus, ran in, with Peter trailing behind, they all gasped - the room was beautiful. There were four poster bed, with red curtains, and big windows looking out onto the lake.

The boys reluctantly got ready for bed, and tried to fall asleep. This simple task was quite difficult for James, who kept tossing and turning, wondering what adventures his life in Hogwarts would bring him.

Lily:

Lily was staring up at the brick celling, with Alice snoring in the bed next to her. She kept imagining what Severus was doing, where he was, and if he was alright. She couldn't believe they had been split up, and she was really worried because now she felt like she had lost her guide.

As she turned over in the bed, she thought about James. Maybe she could befriend him, but he just seemed so wild, and she did not think Severus would approve of him. Also, was she different for being a muggle born? Should she be ashamed? She knew that life would be easier coming from a pure blood family, but that didn't mean that her parents were bad. Lily just hoped that she wouldn't be seen as being too different, and that hopefully, she would be accepted by everyone.
