James:

Somehow, it had already been a month since James had been in Hogwarts. His friendship with Sirius, Remus, and Peter was growing, and he felt as if he'd known them for his entire life.

Peter was still as nervous as ever, and sometimes it really shocked James that he was in Gryffindor. Peter was always the one to be left out of the conversations. When James and Sirius would talk to their other classmates, one could almost forget Peter was there. Peter always had ambition however to make this change, and it felt like every conversation he got more and more involved. James thought this was a good thing, and he most certainly credited himself for it. After all, if it hadn't been James engaging in the conversations with their other classmates, Peter wouldn't have had the opportunity to improve in the first place.

Remus was the wisest out of the four boys. Whenever they planned a prank, or another way to explore the castle, Remus always gave a voice of reason. James was grateful for this, because they had not been caught yet, and he was sure that if they had followed through with their original plans, they would have gotten into some serious trouble.

James felt the closed to Sirius. Sirius was as confident as him, and his magic skills matched James. Sirius was always in to play a practical joke, and was always up to talk to new people. He also shared a mutual hatred for Severus.

Severus was such a drip. Severus was liked by their Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, and unfortunately his skills in the subject matched James and Sirius's. The two boys had once managed to pass a sly comment, and luckily for them, that had affected Severus's performance for the rest of the class. James considered continuing this treatment, to see if it could get to him.

The worst part about Severus, however, was his relationship with Lily. Every day James saw the two having animated discussions, and he just couldn't get past it.

Ever since his confrontation with Lily on the first day of school, James hadn't managed to start up a conversation with her. For example, when James would make a hilarious joke in class, the entire class laughed, except her. It felt as if when ever he spoke, she scorned. Her disapproval of him only intrigued him even more, because he had never liked a girl who had been so difficult to get to. She was so smart, and pretty, and kind. He didn't know how to solve this problem, but he knew Severus was the root of it. He knew, or thought he knew, that to get to Lily, he had to torment Severus. Maybe that way Severus would feel so pressured that he'd leave Lily alone. Or, even better, Lily could see what a loser he is.

Lily:

Lily was lying in her bed, petting her cat Ginger, while talking to Alice about their favourite Halloween memories. It was Saturday, and normally Lily would normally be outside, but as it was another rainy October day, and she would rather enjoy the comfort of her warm bed.

Halloween was approaching, and the whole school was buzzing with excitement. The older students told tales to the first years about the pranks pulled, the decorations, and most importantly, The Hallowe'en Feast. According to Molly Weasley, - a very nice fifth year student who occasionally has conversations with Lily - there were always pots of candy, cauldrons of lollipops, carrot cake, and more.

Lily and Alice were counting down Halloween, and they were delighted as it was only a week away.

"...and then, when I came downstairs, the entire kitchen was filled with decorations and candy. Turns out my parents didn't forget." Alice concluded

"I remember my favourite Halloween was when I dressed up as Twiggy. Cokeworth doesn't tend to go all out for Halloween, but that year we had new neighbours, and their whole front yard was decorated. They handed out massive amounts of candy, Petunia and I ate so much we were nearly sick."

"Oh Petunia- that's your sister right?"

"Yep" Lily looked out the window, thinking about what her sister was doing at that moment. Ever since Lily found out she had magic abilities, Petunia was distant. Lily didn't know it was possible for that to increase, but now that she was at Hogwarts, she hadn't hear from Petunia at all. She had not gotten a single letter, not even a signature at the end of her parents messages. It made her sick.

"You okay Lily" Alice asked, sitting next to her.

"Yea, it's just I haven't heard anything back from my sister since I've come to Hogwarts."

"Well, why don't you try to send her a letter?." Alice suggested

Lily liked that idea. Maybe if she was the first one to break the ice, it would encourage Petunia.

It was after dinner, and Lily had curled up herself next to the fireplace, feeling warm in her favourite arm chair. She pulled out a piece of parchment, dapped her quill in the ink, and spilled her emotions onto the page. She wrote about her house, and that she was in a different house from Severus. She even wrote about her confrontation with James Potter.

When Lily had finished the letter, she ran up to the owlery. It was cutting close to curfew, but she couldn't wait . She ran up the stairs, and got one of the messenger owls and sent it off. Lily felt relieved. Perhaps this could mend her relationship with Petunia.
