Dawson's P.O.V.:

I fall down onto my couch and let my body sink into the cushions. What the fuck happened today? The walk was supposed to be innocent, just a breath of fresh air. Then... that happened. If one more second had passed, I don't think we would've stopped. I mean I couldn't deny I was attracted to Jared. But I could suppress it for as long as I could. I'm not even sure he was into me the same way. Wishful thinking, I guess.

I sit back up, proping myself up with my elbows. Evana comes and nuzzles her head under my chin, reaching up for a slobbery, wet one on my lips.

"I've got all the kisses I need with you around, Eva." I pat her head.

She licks my chin as if confirming and then settles down next to me. As soon as things seem to have calmed down for the night, my phone buzzes. I pull it out of my pocket and Caller ID informs me that Jared is calling.

The pulse of my heart increases a little. "Hey Leto."

"Hey Dawson." he uttered with a shy manner.

"How are you?" I brush off his reluctance.

He says he's ok, mentioning that I didn't have to come in tomorrow if I didn't want to.

I ponder my schedule although he couldn't see me, "I might have a meeting with my publisher tomorrow, depending on that I'll swing by. If not, Monday for sure."

"Okay. No biggie. Thanks again for all your help." Jared strained to try to mask his discomfort.

"Okay, Jared what's the matter?" I sigh, crossing my legs together in a knot. Evana helps herself and puts herself into my lap.

"You aren't upset?"

I said no, rather confused.

"That's all that matters then." a little relief settled into his tone.

"If you're talking about the walk, don't sweat it. Heat of the moment, right?" part of me wanted him to agree to help me get over the thought of us. The other part wanted him to say no, that he wanted it to happen just as much as me.

I heard his stubble rub against the phone as he smiled, or forced one, "Of course."

"See you soon Jared." I said.

He said bye and we hung up.
