I sat there hugging Evana for a second. She was oblivious about the news I just got. My baby, my poor baby, she was suffering, in pain. I felt red hot tears fall down my face and spark a fire. Burning, angry flames raged inside me. This was unfair, completely unjust. More tears fell, and Jared saw this time. He walked over and sat next to me, petting Eva and kissing the side of my head. I leaned into him, the only thing grounding me at the moment.

"Did he say if there were any treatment plans?" I mutter.

He nods, "He said we found it early, so she could still go through Chemo and have a good chance."

I let out another sob, gripping Eva a little tighter. She looks up and licks my chin and then lays down again. It was taking a lot out of her.

"I'll schedule the surgery." Jared said, standing up and grabbing his phone.

After Jared called the vets office he joined me. He pulled Eva into his lap and hugged me.

"Surgery is in 2 days." Jared whispered.

I nod, not speaking. Talking would make this real.

I grip onto his arm and pet Evana with my other hand. "She needs to be spoiled, "I mumble, "spoiled rotton."

Jared suddenly hands Eva over to me and hops up, "I know exactly how too."
He walks to the freezer and pulls out something. I look up at him and he just smiles over at me with that sneaky little smile.

"What are you doing?" I ask, speaking up a bit. I rush to the kitchen and see Jared unwrapping a steak. "I thought you were Vegan?"

He laughs as he preps the oven, "Shannon left it here a couple days ago. He said he was going to have it for breakfast. Too bad my brother."

I smile as I jump onto the counter and watch him cook. I didn't even know he could cook. Occasionally, he would look over and wink at me.

When he was finished, he handed it to me on a plate and I cut it up. I called Evana over, and set it on the ground. I guess she felt okay because she was able to eat and hold down at least half of the steak.

As Eva ate her special dinner, I made my way to Jared who was cleaning up. I slipped under his arm so I was between him and the counter.

"Uh miss you're in my way." He whispered with a smirk.

"Oh. I didn't realize." I lean in so my lips brush against his.

"Yeah. Just a little bit." He said in a regular voice, putting his soapy hands on my waist. My body curls into his and our lips meet. Our tongues dance and he puts me on the counter. There, I smile and pull back.

"God you're so incredible." he says.

I turn red and slam my head into his chest. Oh how fast I was falling for this man. He made all my fears melt and disappear. He made me feel safe and sound, as if I was invincible. I think, maybe, just maybe, I could take the final step with him.
