When I got home, Evana instantly fell asleep. She was upset and didn't want to interract with me like she usually did.
I went to bed bed scared that night.

I woke up to Evana laying beside me. Her usual optimistic morning routine was put on hold, I guess. I sat up and looked over at my phone. Jared had tried calling, so I returned his call.
"Hey, Dawson. I have a friend who is a vet and he is willing to run a couple tests on Eva if you're interested. I could come pick you up in ten maybe fifteen minutes. "
Taking all that in, I glance over at Eva still fast asleep."Sure. I'll get us both ready."
"I'll be over soon."
I hung up and got some sweats on, and throw on a sweater and my sneakers. Then I reach for one of Evana's blankets and wrap her up.
She barely reacts, licking my hand and nudging her nose against my chest."I love you Eva." I kiss her head. I could feel the tears welting up in my eyes. She was not only my dog but my best friend, my little pillow and my support system. I couldn't imagine her just not being here.
A few minutes later I hear the doorbell ring. Eva starts to bark and jump up, then charges the door.
I rush behind her, picking her up and wrapping the blanket around her again. I then open the door to find Jared, with a blanket and a sweater for Eva, "Thought she might get cold."
I force a smile and kiss his cheek, grabbing both and handing Eva off to him. He then shuffles down the stairs as I grab my house keys and purse.
We head straight to his house and there waiting is the vet.
"I'll bring Eva in. If you don't mind." Jared looks at me.
I shake my head, still trying to prepare myself for the answer.
I didn't know what I would do if Eva was gone. Of course it might just be she ate something that her body didn't agree with but, the possibility was still luming. I couldn't get over how drastic her changes were though.
Although I was scared shitless, I walked in behind Jared toward his friend.
"Matt this is Evana and her mama Dawson." Jared says.
He hands over Eva, who seemed happy as could be to be in the presence of 3 people. Matt held Eva to his chest and laid her down on Jared's dinning table, now a make-shift clinic.
"How old is she?" Matt calls over his shoulder.
"Seven." I try. It comes out mumbled and distorted, but apparently auditable.
"Well she's getting high up there. I'll take some blood samples and run some tests. Everything externally that I can see seems fine."
I nod, gripping Jared's hand as tight as I could. He held mine too, rubbing his thumb up and down my wrist.
Matt sticks a needle into Evana and draws out 2 viles of blood. Again, barely a wimper from Evana.
"How long for the results?" Jared asked as Matt started to pack up.
He peeked up for a second before going back to his bag, "If I can get these in tonight, possibly by Monday. If not then by next Wednesday."
I would have to wait three to seven days to find out if my dog would be okay.
After Matt left, Jared invited me to stay. I agreed, not sure I wanted to be alone tonight.
"We could watch a movie?" Jared suggested, sitting down next to me.
I nod, slumping into him. He drapes an arm over me and pulls me close.
"Eva will be okay." He says.
The slightest bit of pessimis laces his words. Although he said it to calm me down, he said it to convince himself too.
Evana knew we were talking about her so she decided to join us. She struggles to jump onto Jared's couch, but both of our bodies take up most the couch. I immediately lay flat on my back, head resting on Jared's thigh, and pick Eva up. She nestles into my stomach, walking around a few times to burrow.
"I love you Eva." Jared says, stroking her head.
I smile up at him. He truly ment it, the hurt in his eyes proved it.
"Let's watch Fight Club!" I yell.
Jared looks down at me, "Are you. . . no. No." He laughs and grabs the remote.
We browse the movies on the TV and settle on The Devil Wears Prada.
By 11 o'clock, all three of us were asleep.
