Chapter 4

Melissa’s POV

It was 8:30 PM now, Riley and I had been doing our one-on-one training for the past two hours, and I was completely beat now not to mention a bit confused.

Why did I kiss him? And why did he kiss me back?? I just wanted to catch him off guard in the only way I knew how to effectively, without kicking him in the balls that is, he wasn’t supposed to kiss me back damn it!

And it felt good. Kissing someone usually feels good though, unless they’re a bad kisser or really slobbery or something gross like that.

But with Riley… it was… nice. I liked it.

Stop it, Melissa! You and Riley have been friends for years! Something stupid like this could ruin your awesome friendship, and I don’t need to deal with shit like this again! It was bad enough when with Dale, when he-

“So, you amped for the kids camp next week?” Riley asked me, stopping my thoughts thankfully. Don’t need to visit those particular memories.

“Extremely! I love teaching the kids, and the farm is absolutely stunning!” I answered with complete honesty.

Every year, in the first week of summer, Jerome and Terry-Lynn host a six day camp for the kids who train at the studio on their farm close to Cultus Lake. It’s just over an hour away, but the place is perfect! It’s a huge place, lots of space to run and be a part of nature.

A few of black belts are the teachers, Jerome and Terry-Lynn give the few odd classes but they mostly cook for everyone.

Myself, Riley, and one of the older black belts Mark are the teachers this year. It’s gonna be freaking epic!!

“Do you need a lift again?”

I looked at Riley, confused, “Since when do you offer lifts?”

“Since you’re always bumming lifts off people anyways, I thought I should be nice.”

“What the hell, I don’t always bum lifts off people!”

“Actually you do.”

“Well don’t worry about me, I’ll get there myself,” I mumbled quickly.

Riley opened his mouth to say something, but must have thought the better of it and closed his mouth again.

“I have to go before it gets dark, it’s hard to drive the scooter at night,” I turned around so grab my bags and leave.

“Why don’t you get a car, that scoot-”

“I know, I know, it’s very dangerous and I could seriously get hurt. I’ve been preached enough thanks!”

“Just saying,” he walked out of the small training room, and then stuck his head inside the door, “Gees girl, hurry up already! I need to lock up!”

“I’m coming, oh impatient one!” I grinned at him and shuffled past quickly.

I waited for him at the front door as he locked the doors, turned the lights off and shut all the blinds. After he finished, I went to my scooter to tie my bags to the back then put my helmet and waited again as he locked the front door.

“See you tomorrow, Riley!” I shouted as I turned the engine on and drove off, headed for home.

I stole a glance at my side view mirrors, to see Riley still standing right where I left him, watching me leave.

When I got home, I took a nice long hot shower to soothe my tired muscles, changed into my pajamas and quickly finished my homework. It’s the last week of school, and yet the bloody teachers still insist on giving us homework, seriously?
