Chapter 6

Melissa’s POV

I took Seth’s hand, his big soft hands that felt so good holding me, and started walking off the dance floor. I went down the hallway, heading for the stairs. We went upstairs quickly, avoiding as many people as possible.

But people know my face, and as we walked into one of the guest rooms and closed the door, I heard someone whistle and someone else whooped my name. Well I’m going to have to sort that out sometime, great.

I turned and looked at Seth, who was just watching me with intrigued eyes.

“I’m sorry…about downstairs…I didn’t mean for things to get so carried away like that…” god this is awkward.

“It’s ok.”

I sighed, rubbing my face with both my hands, “We can’t do this, we really can’t.”

“Why?”

“Because it’ll really hurt Caitie…”

“Why?”

“Because she’s been crushing on you for years!”

“Really?”

I looked at him in shock, “Don’t tell me you never realized? Besides, don’t you like her?”

He rubbed his neck nervously, “Well, she’s a nice enough girl and all, but I don’t see her as more than a friend honestly.”

“But, you’re always looking at her?”

His eyes widened, “You noticed?”

“Well of course I noticed, it’s always been pretty obvious! Why haven’t you asked her out yet?”

He mumbled something too quietly for me to hear, “Sorry, repeat?”

“I wasn’t looking at her…”

“Then who-”

“You! I was always trying to get a glimpse of you!” he just about screamed at me.

“Wait, what?”

“Just, you know what, why don’t I just go home and we forget about this whole night, ok?”

He headed for the door, but I jumped in front of him, my back against the door and locking it so he couldn’t get out.

“What are you doing, get out of my way,” he tried to move me, but I stood firm, his hard bare chest brushing against me.

“No.”

“Why? Haven’t I humiliated myself enough for one night?”

“You’re humiliated by me?” that actually kind of hurt.

“Yes, I mean no, shit I don’t know. I’ve always wanted this, but I’m just so confused now…” he banged his head onto the door above my head.

“What are you confused about?”

“Your intentions.”

“My…?”

“Why did you ask me to be your date tonight? Why did we kiss like we did?”

I turned and looked up at him, “Come on,” I gently pulled him away from the door and lead him to the bed. I sat him down, then pulled up a chair and sat down in front of him, “To answer your first question, I asked you to come tonight because I really didn’t want to come alone, bad things have happened to girls who came alone. And I don’t know why we kissed, I didn’t plan to or anything but I guess something clicked. How many girlfriends have you had?”
