Chapter 11

Melissa’s POV

Once all the girls were in bed and I knew the dog was sitting at the door of the teepee, I went to the bathroom and showered quickly, dressing in my pajamas and brushing my hair and teeth. When I was finished, I chucked my things inside the giant tent and grabbed my phone, stepping outside into the cool brisk air, and headed towards the small fireplace in front of the teepee.

I dialed Seth’s number. He answered after two rings.

“Hi,” he said shyly.

“Hey King Kong, how are you?”

“I’m alright. I really miss you.”

His words caught me off guard, “It’s only been a few hours though?”

“I know. I can’t help it,” he replied very quietly, I almost didn’t hear him. It made me smile.

“It’s ok, I miss you too.”

We chatted for an hour, mostly me telling what we did and what we’re still going to do this week, and that I’ll phone him when I can but it’ll be hard these next few days.

He just listened quietly, adding his say here and there, but not much was said on his side.

Just as I was about to say goodnight, he randomly asked, “What are we going to tell our friends?”

“Wait, what? You’ve lost me now.”

“Our friends, what are we going to tell them about us? I know Henry is hearing things from the party so that means Matthew knows and a lot of people there saw us so Caitie must know too. Are we going to tell them we’re together or…”

He paused, so I cut in, “Um, can we maybe not tell anyone just yet? They can think what they want but I want to wait and see how this goes before we make it official, I hope you don’t mind?”

“Oh, ok, that’s fine.”

“Don’t take this badly please, it’s just how I am when it comes to relationships.”

“Really, it’s fine. I don’t mind. We’ll have to tell our parents though.”

“Yeah, whoop di do,” I said sarcastically, “Well your parents already know, and we don’t have to bother with mine, so we’re good.”

“What do you mean, your parents should know too, shouldn’t they?”

I sighed quietly, “Don’t worry about it, I’ll make a plan. But I have to go, long couple of days coming up…”

“Ok, sleep well, and phone me whenever you have time to spare.”

“I will. You too hun, bye,” I ended the call, and stepped into the teepee. I did a quick check, counting and making sure all the girls were here. Yup, all sixteen were accounted for. I climbed into my cold bed, shivering and wrapping my blanket around me tightly.

As soon as my head hit the pillow, I realized how tired I actually was and closed my eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.

Mark woke me up at 6:30 that morning, I rolled out of bed, mumbling under my breath, grabbing my toiletries bag plus some clothes, I missioned across the small dried up river to the bathroom. After going through my normal morning routine, I put on my old faded denim shorts with my blue Superman top and some running shoes.

No point in dressing up if I’m going to work all day! I left the hair elastic around my wrist for later and put my aviators on my head. Picking up my things, I walked out of the bathroom, running back to the teepee and threw my stuff in.
