Chapter 10
Riley’s POV
That little cow, that’s my teepee and she knows it! I’ve never been in the other teepee before, I always stay in the one Melissa’s now gone and stole from me!
She will not get away with this. Not if I have anything to say about it.
Rushing off in same direction as Melissa, I looked around me quickly. This place really is beautiful, brings back such good memories…
I got to the teepee, lifting up the cloth door, stepping inside.
“What are you doing here, didn’t you hear Mark?” I glance up to see Melissa standing in front of me with her hands on her hips.
“I came to grab my bags, seeing as I’ve been forced to move from my natural habitat,” I grumble. I grab my bags and start marching out.
I hear laughter behind me, “Don’t worry Rils, you’ll survive just this once!” Melissa shouts.
“Yeah yeah,” I said under my breath. I stomp off, ending up on the other side of the field at the other teepee. I chuck my bags in quickly, running up the hill towards the main house where a few kids and their parents had already arrived.
I start greeting the parents and kids with Mark, about ten minutes later Melissa showed up and did the same. We showed the kids which teepee they will stay in for the week and let them play around as we waited for everyone to arrive.
The last kid arrived just after seven, all the parents were gone and we had thirty kids to deal with. A lot more than our last group, but the bigger the better. As long as they listen, everything will run smoothly.
Who am I kidding? A huge group like this, something’s bound to go wrong.
“Alright, everyone go to the big fireplace next to the boys’ teepee please!” I hear Mark shout, there’s our queue.
“Come on guys,” I shouted after the kids, chasing them so they’d move faster.
Once everyone was rounded up, Mark explained what was going to happen this week and all the rules that have to be followed. Then the introductions were made for those who didn’t know Mark, Melissa or myself.
Afterwards we let the kids play around again, Melissa and I headed up to the main house to get supper ready, Mark staying down at the bottom to watch the kids.
I didn’t say a word on the way up, neither did she. And yet, it was still a comfortable silence, even though I’m pretty pissed at her.
We got to the house and made our way to the kitchen, managing to avoid all six of the dogs running around our legs on the way. I open the backdoor to the kitchen and let myself in, Melissa following close behind. Terry Lynn was standing in the middle of the room, half way through the mac and cheese that’s for supper.
“Hey guys, I’m almost done with the macaroni, just need to stick it in the oven for a little while. Melissa, will you mix some juice for everyone please, the bottles and juice mix is in the cabinet in the corner there,” Terry Lynn ordered placing the food in the oven, Melissa nodded and started mixing, “Riley, will you clean up for me, you know where everything goes.”
“Sure thing,” I replied.
Terry Lynn thanked us and walked out of the room, leaving me and Melissa by ourselves again. We work silently for ten minutes, till she randomly burst out laughing.
“What? What is so funny exactly?” I spat.
“You,” she answered with a grin.
I shake my head disapprovingly and turned back to the dishwasher, packing the dirty plates and things in. I feel a small set of arms wrap around my stomach.
