Torn Apart

Mello sat outside on the lawn, cross-legged and scowling. Why he was looking so fed up was a mystery; the sun was shining despite the time of the year and it was the first time Mello had been out since the explosion of the Mafia Headquarters. Next to him was a small portable radio which, amongst the static, blared out the headlines. The majority of the topical subjects were no interest whatsoever to Mello, but he listened intently nonetheless. After all, having blown up a building and participated in a number of crimes including murder, Mello was more than ever unnerved by the possibility that there could be an announcement to alert the public of his existence.

Coming to join the blonde, Matt sat down beside Mello with two bottles of beer and a chocolate bar. The beer was for him - Mello turned his nose up at any beverage without chocolate in it - and, of course, Matt would have had a death wish if he even thought Mello would be willing to share the bar. As considerate as he could be, Mello never shared his chocolate. That was just out of the question totally.

"Hey." Matt leaned over and pecked Mello on the cheek. Since their passionate kiss a few days ago, everything begun and ended with small little gestures of admirations, such as squeezing one another's hand or gently stroking a cheek. Whatever it was, they all indicated each other's love for the other and that was all they needed.

Noticing Mello's scowl, Matt asked, "What's up?" He opened a beer bottle and, taking a sip, sighed gently out of happiness. Here he was, with the man he had been clutching on to in his dreams for so long, just relaxing. It was perfect. It truly was.

Unlike Matt, Mello was not as naive as to think that the situation they were in was perfect. If anything, it was the calm before a storm. Like everything that went well for Mello, he knew that it would soon crash and burn. How, he wasn't yet sure of, but he knew it wasn't to be long. Never in his life would he say there was a moment of peace he held for longer than a day.

Suddenly, Mello heard the police sirens and stood up quickly, knowing that his deepest fear had become reality. Yet it was too soon... He had found Matt and they were in love and he didn't want to leave him ever again. However, what else could he do? He was intelligent but he couldn't get himself out of this mess now. He had to accept defeat, which was humiliating to say the least, or otherwise Matt could get involved if he were to go on the run. That was the last thing he wanted to happen. For Matt to get in trouble as well.

Turning to Matt, who was now also standing, Mello quickly hissed, "Get inside the house. Get inside and don't come out until they're gone." Obviously confused, Matt didn't seem to understand that the police were coming for Mello. Either that, or it hadn't crossed his mind. However, the police cars suddenly came to a halt outside the house upon spotting the two of them. Half a dozen or so police officers sprinted out, running behind their vehicles and aiming hand guns at them, "Put your hands up now!"

Mello was about to do so when he realised... They weren't pointing their guns at him, but at Matt, who stood terrified. "Hey, what are you doing?" he yelled, "Matt's not-" Before Mello could continue, a cop approached them, a single pair of handcuffs in his hand, "Step aside, son." he growled at Mello.

Shaking his head, Mello now knew what was going on, "Hey, it's me you want! Arrest me, not Matt!" The officer walked over to Matt and pulled his arms behind his back, "You're under arrest for being associated with the Mafia and organising a bombing." "Wait!" Mello ran over, but Matt was already being taken in the police car. "Wait!" Matt took one final glance at Mello, not sure how to react.

As they drove away, Mello fell to his knees, letting out a scream of pure agony.
