Near ended the call to Mello and looked over at Halle Lidner, a member of the SPK and a close colleague of his, "I require an emergency mode of transport in at least fifteen minutes." He explained, matter-of-factly. Halle frowned, knowing it best to just do as L's successor told her to, yet this sudden order... Especially after calling Mello... "I'll do my best." Raising a small radio to her lips, she turned around as she relayed the instructions to the receiver.
The blonde had gone back inside the house, striding up and down the kitchen. How could he have been so idiotic? He wanted to just shoot himself in pure frustration. Matt... Gone because Mello couldn't hold on to him tight enough. It was as if fate wanted to keep them apart. Squatting down on the floor suddenly, Mello knew he had to do something soon... So hopefully his rash deal with Near could come to something useful.
About ten minutes later, a sleek black Porche parked itself effortlessly outside the house. Matt would have loved that car, Mello thought to himself, his heart aching miserably at the thought of his boyfriend. Near took a cautious step out; like their predecessor, Near wasn't particularly fond of being outside, thus never strayed from the SPK HQ unless necessary. Whether or not this case was necessary could be debatable yet, somehow, Near felt drawn to it. As if this event could open up an opportunity.
Halle began to get out, knowing how reliant Near was on her. However, the nineteen year old gave her a look of slight annoyance and murmured, "I do not need assistance with Mello, Halle." Watching him walk away, Halle was surprised to find herself feeling an overwhelming need to protect Near. As if he was her son, leaving home for the first time. Snap out of it, Lidner, she told herself sharply, getting back in the car.
Mello opened the door before Near had a chance to knock. He wanted to sneer at him, call him sheep, yet the idea that Near had control on helping Matt or not loomed over him precariously. Damn, why did Near always get the upper hand? Leaning on the door frame, Mello gave a small smile, "Hey, Near."
Having spent his life squatting down on the floor, Near found it somewhat amusing to find that he was now just a couple of inches shorter than the 'most cold-blooded' Mafia leader. Whilst he didn't doubt Mello's lack of morality for a second, Near also felt as though he could do anything he liked with him now he had promised to help out. An idea fluttered in his head, although he kept it down. For now, "Hello, Mello." Near smirked, taking note of the new scar across his face.
Mello's jaw hardened. So much for attempting to be nice. However, he didn't have any option. Stepping aside, the blonde got straight to it. "They took Matt less than an hour ago." "As I'm aware..." Near glanced at the various objects and décor as he walked. Matt obviously owned the place; posters with gaming characters littered the walls and cigarette packets had been tossed carelessly around. However, certain aspects, such as a pair of leather trousers dangling from the bannister, implied Mello's presence was more than welcomed.
"Nice place you have..." Near took himself a chair, sitting on it with one leg drawn to his chest and the other firmly on the floor. His hand reached for an albino-white strand which was then playfully twisted and curled between his fingers. His eyes stared deep into Mello's, "How did you get the scar?" He asked, calmly. Knowing that Near was bound to ask the question, Mello sighed, "I... I blew up the Mafia HQ." "So that's why you called me..." Near allowed himself a small grin, "You can no longer work with your allies."
"Well, given that I did what I did, I doubt they would be thrilled to help me out..." Mello frowned. Near seemed pretty snobbish today. He grasped for a bar of Hershey's, unwrapping the silver foil carefully, and took a bite out of it. Click , "Anyway, we aren't here to discuss my misfortunes. We're here to discuss Matt." "Yes, Matt..." Near sighed a little, as if the concept was a foolish dream.
"Here's what I propose..."
