When Matt came around from his previously unconscious state, he was met with a slap straight across his cheek. It took him a few seconds to register this sudden act of violence before his face creased up and he whined loudly, "Ow...!" It also took him a few seconds to work out who had hit him and, by the time he had, they were making out with him passionately.
"Don't you dare leave me again, idiot!" Mello was pinning Matt to the floor as he once again found himself intrigued by the rediscovery of the redhead's lips, "You're lucky I love you, huh?" A few feet away, Halle and Near stood, watching this interaction between the men with curiosity. How had Mello seemingly forgiven Matt so quickly? Especially given that he was notorious for one-and-only chances. The majority of Mafia deaths he had caused was due to someone having acted up only once. Either that, or Mello was having a rubbish day.
Blurry-eyed, Matt was somewhere between furious pain and deeply in love. Just this once, he told himself, I'll go with the latter option. He pushed himself closer to Mello, wrapping his arms around his waist and closing his eyes once more. Damn, this must be heaven. After all, Mello would never do such a thing if this was reality... Matt almost didn't want this to be real. He didn't deserve such beauty.
"Welcome, Matt." Near said in his usual monotone, "Halle brought you back." Matt had to slightly push Mello off in order to get a better look at Near. He looked somewhat sad; an emotion Matt had never thought him capable of experiencing. The corners of his mouth were turned down heavily, and his eyes appeared to be glazed over. However, apart from those small signs, he hadn't seemingly changed at all.
Matt nodded slowly, his eyes wandering over to the woman who had hit him over the head with a revolver barrel. It had been very quick - he ought to give her some credit for that. at least - but he still felt a little wary of her. Mello stood up and looked down at Matt. Of course it would have been too much to expect assistance in getting up, so he painfully managed to his feet, his cheek seemingly alight whilst his head uncomfortably throbbed. "Urghh..."
Near sighed, "I'll be blunt; it wasn't part of the plan to bring you here-" Near eyed the other two, "-but I don't suppose you'll be much harm. We still need assistance in the Kira case and you may as well help now you are here." "Wait," Matt interrupted, "Have you two... teamed up?" Mello threw a glare at Near, "Well, we are working together, yes. Near asked that, in order to help me find you, that would I work with him. I agreed because I needed help." Matt experienced another wave of guilt. He knew how much Mello hated Near. Or so it seemed.
"S-sorry..." Matt looked down at the ground, "For all the trouble I caused..." Mello smirked, "About time! In the future, let me know when you want to hand me over to the FBI, okay?" The statement was intended as a joke, but made Matt shiver on hearing it, "Yes..." Mello rolled his eyes before grinning, "Well. Let's leave it for now... We still have a lot to do." Halle nodded and walked out, leaving the three boys of Wammy's fourth wave staring at one another.
Near spoke first, "I... didn't know the two of you were in a relationship?" "Relationship?" Mello pretended to frown, "What do you mean? I always greet Matt like that, don't I?" He turned to the redhead, who nodded slowly. It was obvious that he wasn't tagging on to Mello's jokes, "Yes, we're in a relationship. Do you have a problem with that?" Matt's tone became somewhat defensive and Near scowled, "No. Of course not. I just want to let you know, however, you'll be sleeping in separate rooms."
"Why?" Mello asked, now frowning as well. Near's jaw hardened, "Because I said so! Now, let's continue working; we have no time whatsoever." He turned around and stormed out.
"What's up with him?" Matt asked and Mello shrugged, "Couldn't possibly say."
