Part 8

Before I could be bombarded with questions when I arrived at school, I was already being dragged into an empty classroom. I sighed deeply and sat on the floor, leaning my back against the wall. I looked up at Sky's emerald green eyes that told me I was in a lot of trouble. I shifted my gaze to Luke's eyes and noticed how darker they were now. He looked at me like I burned his toy car collection-- which he treats with too much love and care.

I heaved another sigh and slumped my shoulders. Both of them crossed their arms and tapped their foots expectantly. At least they dragged me off before class. I was planning on telling them the truth, it wouldn't hurt if they know.

I'm eventually coming clean to everyone--but, not now. I scrunched my nose and tapped it with my finger.

"Guys," I murmured.

They both raised their eyebrows but said nothing.

"I'll tell you the truth, okay? Please don't freak out."

Sky scoffed at what I said, but they both still remained silent.

"To make the long story short, Prince Chanceon's my best friend." Wow, saying his full first name seemed weird coming out from my mouth.

They still said nothing.

"You know we were born on the same day, right?"

They both said nothing but nodded, their eyes betraying their angry mask that was slowly fading. They tried to hide their curiosity.

"Well, actually, my parents are the best friends of the king and queen. We used to live in a house in the palace grounds when I was younger. All of us grew up together, Nati, Jamie, Chancey, me and Jace.  When we were small, we couldn't just hang out with the guys just anywhere. C'mon, they're the princes and all. Plus, you know how people are with royalty--especially the reporters. They like to exagerrate stories. Everyone decided long ago that it wasn't for the public's ears that I'm best friends with the future king. I guess, we really didn't think it through since we ignored the fact that keeping it a secret would just make things harder when we're a lot older. You know, with all the best friends fall in love, the prince charming and all? Since Chancey was sooo annoying, he got our parents to agree to him being my date during our prom a few months back. We didn't know who took the picture, but it was known that it was Chancey in the picture. They didn't know it was me, but everyone at prom knew. So, we did damage control and made sure everyone kept quiet. The staff here know. Some students also know since Chancey and I celebrate our birthdays together and stuff. But they kept quiet, too. I don't know why people would think I'm the 'mystery girl' since we've never been seen together before and stuff. I just, I just can't handle the publicity right now. You know, this is why we kept it a secret, and I just had to give him that bracelet that made sure everyone knew it was their, oh so beloved, Prince Chanceon."

I blew out a breath and stared at them. Sky's expressions have been changing from curiosity to disbelief, to understanding, to awe, to blank, and lastly, to happy. Luke's expressions were the same, except for the happy part. He didn't seem happy.

"You really talk too fast, you know that, A?" Sky said.

I laughed lightly.

"Yup," as I said that, the late bell rang.

Some point in my explanation, the bell rang, but none of us acknowledged it.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, guys. Chancey and I just wouldn't be able to hang out anymore if I told the world-- at least, not like before."

I pouted and batted my eyelashes; I learned that from my sister. I stopped myself from laughing barely. I just find it too funny when I do that.

They both sighed and held one hand each out for me. I held their hands and got up. When I was on my feet, I hugged them, catching them off-guard. They both laughed.

"So, you got no questions for me?" I asked.

They both looked at each other and shrugged.

"You told us the story. It was crystal clear. I wouldn't want anything to ruin my friendship with Luke, too," Sky said.

Luke raised an eyebrow at Sky, still smiling.

"Ooooh. You love me, don'tcha?" Luke teased and poked Sky's ribs.

Sky swatted his hand away, mock scowled and playfully glared at him.

"I hate you," Sky said and growled.

I just watched their fight, amused.

"Liar, liar, pants' on fire," Luke sang.

Sky kicked his shin and laughed triumphantly as Luke winced.

"Dammit, Sky. This is practically assault," Luke said as he rubbed his shin.

"You pushed me over the edge, idiot," Sky said and smiled sadistically.

When Luke recovered, he smiled and headed towards the door and unlocked it.

"If you hated me, you would've kicked me where it hurts the most. But, you didn't, so, you do love me," Luke said and quickly exited the room and ran for dear life.

I laughed, and Sky shifted her glare to me before running to catch Luke. Those two could make me forget everything. They didn't even ask anything after I explained. They just got it, no questions asked. They didn't make  a fuss or anything, they just listened. Wow. They went on normally like nothing happened.

I smiled to myself as I headed towards class. I could still hear the sound of Luke and Sky's shoes running on the tiled floor. I knocked before opening the door and heard Ms. A, my Math teacher, telling me to come in.

"Good morning, Ms. A. I'm sorry I'm late," I said, trying to look as remorseful as I could.

"It's alright, Miss Caprione. Good morning to you, too. Take a seat," she said and smiled while waving it off.

I could feel everyone looking at me, so I just sat in my seat next to Chancey and propped my head up with my hands. One of my bodyguards gave me my book, and I pretended to be listening to the teacher. C'mon, this was what I learned last year. But, some students here still don't understand or don't recall. I sighed, and the door to the room burst open and revealed a panting Luke, and Sky was just behind him.

"Sorry we're late, Ms. Ammedan," they both said in unison, regaining their breaths.

They looked at each other and laughed, noticing they said it at the same time. I just smiled as Ms. A told them not to be late again and that Sky should stop chasing Luke.

When lunch time came, I was already really annoyed. People kept coming up to me and asking a million questions, all about Chancey and me. I bet my face looked as exhausted as I felt right now. Just as I was about to enter the lunch hall, someone wrapped their arms around my waist and lifted me off the ground. Sky just raised an eyebrow as I didn't argue or look to see who it was.  I would've snapped, but as I said before, I was tired.

"What's got you down in the dumps, An?" Thanee asked as he set me back down on my feet.

I turned to face him and shrugged.

"Awww. C'mon. Have people been bothering you lately?" he asked loudly, trying to give everyone listening a hint.

I just shrugged again, and the students continued their journey to the lunch hall, not staring anymore.

"Let's go," Sky said as she tapped her wrist where there was no watch on.

And, yet again, I shrugged and followed her inside. Thanee slung his arm around my shoulder, and I just shrugged. I didn't feel like talking or arguing or anything anymore. Of course students were staring. The new girl said she didn't like the princes, and she just hung out with him, and, now, the famous actor has his arm around her shoulder. I plopped down in my seat, and everyone else was already there. They all raised an eyebrow each as Thane sat next to me, arm still around my shoulder. I just shrugged again.

Mac already knew what I wanted for lunch, so I didn't need to talk. Everyone tried to make me talk, but they gave up when they finally realized I wasn't in the mood. I caught Chancey's gaze, and I just raised an eyebrow the same time he did. I almost laughed, but only a small smile escaped. Zar noticed though.

"Guys, she just smiled! She's not a zombie pretending to be Anna after all! We all know zombies don't have emotions," Zar said, relief and happiness in his voice.

Everyone turned to look at me, but of course, the smile was only brief, so they didn't see it. Brynn whacked Zar on the head and said," You're crazy. You should go to a mental asylum. She should have at least become a vampire."

And they all argued about which was better, zombies or vampires. Thane removed his arm around my shoulder when he realized he couldn't eat without it, and that's when I remembered he still had a thing for me. *Groan internally*

I excused myself from class when my phone vibrated in my pocket. I answered it, and Mom's name was on the screen.

"Hi, honey! I'm just checking up on you again," she said in her usual cheery voice.

"I'm great, Mom. You called me like 6 times already today, this being the 7th. Everything's still peachy," I said in my cheeriest tone but saying it sarcastically in my head.

"Oh, that's good. I'm sorry for disturbing you in class. I'll just call you later. Love you, hon. Bye!"

"Love you, too, Mom," I replied and stuffed my phone back into my pocket.

I wrote 'Mom' in my notebook when I was back on my desk for Chancey to see. We couldn't just openly talk, so we got by with writing in our own notebooks and glancing at them to see what we had to say. He wrote '7 :)' on his notebook, and I wrote 'sigh' on mine.
