Part 4

Chancey's eyes were sealed shut. He was smiling against Amanda's lips!

Their sides were both to me, so they didn't notice me. Amanda's eyes were trained on Chancey's closed eyelids. I ran away almost too fast that I almost missed her amber eyes glittering in delight and a hint of triumph.

My dress was not too heavy, so I managed to run to the restroom. And after making sure I was alone, I locked it. I never thought wearing my converse would ever save me. If I had worn those heels, I know I would've stumbled on  my dress and fell. Lucky for me, no one was anywhere near the staircase or the restroom hall. I slowly released the breath I didn't know I was holding. I slumped down to the marble floor, my dress swallowing my form. I gathered my thoughts immediately and calmed my racing heart.

I couldn't hold back the questions from erupting anymore.

Was that my imagination?
You wish, sherlock.

I thought he didn't like her, last time I checked?
Well that changed, didn't it?

Why didn't he tell me anything?
Like you wouldn't go ballistic.

I've never seen them together so how could they..........?
Wow, Anna, are you losing brain cells or something? Like he'd want to tell you about his love life.

Love life?
Well, duh, he must love her enough to not tell you.

He would never keep that kind of thing from me.
Maybe he's waiting for the time you wouldn't go haywire?

What would he love in that bitz uhh.. girl!?
Maybe he's found her real persona somewhere deep inside that monster?

Wow! I might seriously be going crazy right now, thinking there's a wonderful Amanda inside.
Oh, yeah, like talking to yourself is not a sign of going crazy.

--Now you'll think I hate people too much well.. hate to break it to you, but she's the only person I've ever despised this much. I don't even really hate her friends, just when they do stupid things. You know? There's just that one person you hate with every fiber of your being because they're just too much. Don't start asking me what happened when we first met in Kindergarten.----

Stop being sarcastic you sour milk cakes.
Sour milk cakes?

Food cursing. Spoilt cheese bread!
Oookay......

Bleeeh. Why? What? When? Where? Most importantly, How!?
You have issues. Geez.. calm down.

No, I don't! And don't tell me to calm down.
Yes, you do have issues, and don't listen to your more rational side if you don't want to then.

No, I don't. I'm being rational.
Yeah, you do, and you are not.

No.
You better get back to that party, or they'll think something's up, you crazy psycho.

You're right..... Hey I'm not a crazy psycho.
Suuurreeee you're not...

I shut out the questions bouncing around in my brain and put on my happy, care free mask.
I unlocked the door and slid out. To my relief, no one was in the hall. When I emerged into the ball room, people swarmed around me.

As I was talking to  everyone, I couldn't help but spare glances at Chancey and Amanda.
Amanda was talking to her friends while Chancey also spared her glances. He was too far for me to see what look he held. Then his eye caught mine, and I felt my body stiffen. I immediately straightened out myself and tried to get caught up in people talking to me.

No one noticed my distress, to my relief again. It was so hard to keep myself composed while my head was screaming for me to demand an explanation from Chancey.

"Good evening, everybody!"

I almost jumped at the sudden burst of Keely's voice echoing through the room.

"Before our special thingy we're going to do for our beloved Anna, let's think back to why we're all here tonight. Annalisa Belle Caprione, such an amazingly crazy daughter, student, friend, ally, role model, schoolmate, classmate, acquaintance, stranger et al."

I laughed at her fake dramatic voice as did everyone else in the room.

"She's always been one strong girl. She kept her head held high through all the years of keeping up with her life. She's  always encouraged everyone to do their best and not give up. I can say many more things about Anna, but we already know that. So, why don't I read to her your little notes while she guesses who wrote them."

Oh. That's what those little colored papers in Em's hands were for. I smiled while watching Em hand a note to Keely.

Zander and Shelly pushed me towards the stage Keely and Em were up on. I walked up the small stairs and stood beside Keely. She looked at the note, and then at me and cleared her throat.

"School's gonna be a complete drag without you, Ann. Shumpalaka pim pom!"
Laughs, chuckles and giggles erupted, and I couldn't help but smile; despite the fact I still had a picture of them kissing in my head.

"No doubt that's Emil." Ahh. Emil, my crazy partner in chemistry who chants random words while dancing. Then Emil emerged right in front of the stage and started chanting and dancing. I'll really miss him and everyone else.

"Thank you for that uhh.. enthusiastic chant, Emil. Now here goes the second note....."

Keely read atleast 30 something notes; I stopped counting at 10. And she finally got to the last note.

"I've always been in love with you from the time I heard you laugh. I wish you'd know."

People's eyes were sparkling as they looked at us. Keely stared at the note, smirking. She looked it over twice, then frowned while shaking her head, before handing it to me. Everyone was staring at us, waiting for my guess on who wrote it.

"I don't know who wrote it. Do you?" she asked for only me to hear.

I looked at it, and it looked familiar. It's on the tip of my tongue.. It.. It.. It looks like.... Liam's! His a's and g's are exactly the same, but the other letters appear different. I'm not entirely sure, so I can't say it out loud.

I shook my head, and she laughed into the microphone.

"It seems like Anna has another secret admirer. We don't know who he is, but if I were you, Mr. Secret guy, I would gather the courage to tell her before she finds a hot guy at her new school."

I glared at Keely, but everyone just laughed. Emi grabbed the mic from a still giggling Keely while I held onto my glare.

"Enough of that. Now why don't we all go to our places now?"

What!? Places!? Wait.. The surprise thingy Keely was talking about? Oh, God, no! If everyone knows about this, I just know it's going to be totally weird and weird and weird and weird! Did I mention I know it's going to be weird?! What did they plan!?

People shuffled around the dance floor as the lights dimmed. Keely and Emi vanished from my sides to where I assume to be 'their places'. I just stood there waiting for someone to show up or tell me something. In the darkness, I could only make out silhouettes and parts of their faces. Guys were all wearing tuxes, so it was hard to distinguish any guy from the other. Girls wore evening gowns and some ballroom dresses, all different from each other, so I made out Keely's blue dress right away.

My favorite Taylor Swift song's intro suddenly started playing.
Everyone, as I've noticed, even my family, Auntie and Uncle went to the middle of the dance floor with partners waltzing and making a huge circle. Suddenly, a spotlight, which I didn't know existed, shone down upon me as Sammy emerged from the circle, alone.

Beneath the chandelier of stars and atmosphere

He strode over to me, and I groaned internally.

Tangled like the roots on the ground

He held his hand out as he reached me.

The windows opened

I took it and jumped off the small stage, causing people to smile at me as the spotlight followed us.

The wind is blowing and we're both not making a sound

He led me to the middle of the circle, and we positioned ourselves like everyone else waltzing.

Partners slowly surrounded us, abandoning their circle.

Its like I'm melting on into you

"You're all crazy," I said as he twirled me around.

Give me a reason why we should ever move

"Way to be blunt, An."
I looked up at him as he grinned down at me.

And

He let go of me and bowed. I raised an eyebrow at him, but Liam was already holding his hand out for me. Stupid spotlight.

Tell me
You'll never leave me
That I'm not crazy and
This is really happening
That this is really happening

I danced with Liam and commented on how everyone's partners were perfect for them. He told me it was Auntie's matchmaking skills. Jamie already appeared by my side when Liam let go.

Could this be better?

"Who's idea was this, Jamie?" I pouted at him while he led.

You write me letters

"Mom's. She thought it would be a magical moment."

Though you see me everyday

We both laughed. "This is just creepy."

You tend to treat me like

"I told her it would be, too, but she insisted."

My name is up in lights

"Typical Auntie."

It really blows me away

"Here's my cue. Gotta go, A."

He let go and bowed deeply. I shook my head at him then found Chancey standing in front of me, replacing him.

Lock me up in a dark room

I took his hand, and we both positioned ourselves silently as the spotlight dimmed.

And I still cant take my eyes off you

I hung my head down and sung along to avoid Chancey's eyes boring into mine and finding out I'm uhh.. troubled.

"Tell me
You'll never leave me
And I'm not crazy and
This is really happening
That this is really happening"

We waltzed together, but he stayed silent.
I noticed everyone changing positions strategically while the lights slowly lit up the room.

"All those kisses up against your car"

This is so freaking awkward for me! The image of him and Amanda burned into my mind.

"For all those wishes on planes
We thought were stars"

I struggled to keep myself cool and collected. I really wanted to find out, but would he lie?

"Memories like photographs
Oh Baby Here we are"

This song is just making me feel worse! Oh, God! Memories like photographs. Yeah, here we are.

"Tell me
You'll never leave me"

A thought stabbed me in the heart, would he leave me for Amanda? Like ditch me for her most of the time? Come on! I wouldn't mind too much if they loved each other, but I just wish he told me sooner. Wait! Am I seriously jumping to conclusions that he loves her?

"And I'm not crazy"

I'm definitely crazy now.

"Oh and This is really happening
Oh Oh Baby"

Suddenly Chancey stopped waltzing. I looked up at him. Uggh. Now he'll know! He brushed the back of his hand, which was still holding mine, on my cheek where an unknown tear fell.

"Tell me"

He pulled me closer to him, and I buried my head into his chest fitting perfectly.

"You'll always need me," I mumbled into his chest.

He let go of my hand and hugged me tightly and swayed us side by side slowly, knowing I didn't want to talk.

That I drive you crazy
And this is really happening
Oh that this is really happening

"Annie, I know you don't wanna talk. But, please, what's wrong?"

Tell me Oh

I shook my head enveloped in his suit.

You'll always need me

"Please, Annie. I want to help."

(need me tell me)
(Baby)
That I drive you crazy
(Oh)
That this is really happening

"Annie, what happened?"
