Every year on our birthday--mine and Chancey's-- Auntie and Uncle would hold a ball type of thing. We try to have fun, and we show them we do, but it just isn't our thing. We always have our birthdays together. Always. I never invite my own friends though.
It's not that I don't trust my few close friends. I'm not the trusting type, so I don't really get too close with the bratty rich snobs at our school, Stars in Sky High. But I do know everybody since I'm an all-around person, and I am friendly-- at least my friends say so. I rolled my eyes at that and smiled.
My friends and I are the ones who don't take sides in school, the ones who talk to everyone no matter the social standing and popularity. I find popularity rankings overrated. Seriously.
Now, they keep telling me I made their dreams come true because I finally spilled about Chancey being Prince Chanceon. He actually fell on his knees and begged me with his puppy dog face to finally invite them. That was one adorable face, if I might add.
They surprisingly handled it well, and they understood why I kept it a secret. At first, they thought I was joking. But I guess they believed me now, seeing as they're here they were here with me in the ballroom.
Emily, my pretty, petite, blonde, green-eyed bookworm friend. Keely, the lean, dark-haired, sexy genius --as guys label her, which is weird-- wore a shimmery black dress that matches the color of her hair. She looked overwhelmed.
Sam is my bluish-gray eyed, blond friend who is the golden boy of our school. I can see why girls fall head-over-heels for him, but I've never been attracted to Sammy in that way. He's always been like an overprotective big bro.
Also with Sammy is Liam, his best friend, a brown-eyed brunette, who is a really great guy, too, and one of the most down-to-earth people I've met. He has been a perfect fit to our little group.
This year, Auntie and Mom decided to have a dress specially made for me. I was wearing a strapless column knee length navy taffeta chic cocktail.
This was one of their feeble attempts to try to make me wear something sexy or hot. *scoff* *sigh* Everyone here knew who I was, but the paparazzi don't. That's why the people from the media are never invited to Chancey's parties and mine. Everyone knows that every year a party is held for Chancey, but they never know it's for both of us.
So far, so good. No one has told them, and we're thankful for that. Usually, the next day, they grill the guests they've seen come in and out of the palace to what went on in the exclusive royal bash. But Uncle and Auntie trust all the people they invite each year. There are girls here my age who wish I weren't here of course, and they would gladly spill to the paparazzi if it weren't for their parents. Their parents made it very clear that if they speak a letter to the media, they'd be humiliating their family by breaking the royal family's trust.
As I looked around, Chancey's eyes caught mine, and he gave me a pleading look. I laughed under my breath. It's always been easy for me to read him. I noticed girls around him, trying to talk to him and flirt; one practically stepping into his personal space.
I looked back to my friends, who were talking about how cool it is that the prince is my best friend. I laughed at them and told them I'd be right back. I made my way across the room, getting glances from everyone. I ignore them as I always do, I'm used to it. I hate it actually. I feel like every move I make is being watched, which it sorta is.
As I reached the corner of the gigantic room, where the girls flocked around my best friend, I made my way through the crowd of girls. They reluctantly moved when they saw it was me. I finally ended up standing beside the girl practically throwing herself at a stuttering Chancey. I laughed at the look on his face in my mind.
He was faking all his heart-stopping smiles for the sake of being polite. He was grimacing, I can tell from his eyes. But he pretended for the sake of his parents who were watching him, amused, while they talked to my parents.
I smirked at Chancey, and he looked at me, practically using his eyes to ber. The girl standing beside me kept complimenting Chancey.
I counted her compliments while I just stood there watching him shrink. 3..4..5..6.. I laughed evilly in my head.
"My prince, I've seen you riding the horses at our school and you are exceptionally excellent at controlling them."
Okay that's enough, he already looked very annoyed. My prince? Seriously? I had to let out a little laugh at that one.
I grabbed Chancey's hand and faced the girl.
"That's because I taught him."
She looked at me like she had just noticed I was there, then she sneered. Chancey squeezed my hand; he didn't wanna stay here any longer. I flashed her a smile and winked at her. She shot daggers at me with her eyes as I dragged Chancey across the room to my friends.
They haven't officially met yet, and Chancey's been asking me to let him meet them ever since I became close to them.
