The rabbit, Judy Hopps, was already at the police station. She was ready for another mission, the one before was a piece a cake. Skipping to the front desk, she waves to Clawhauser.
"Oh hey Judy!"he chirps, taking a bite out of a fresh donut.
"Hi Clawhauser, have you seen Nick by any chance?" She asked, looking around.
He shrugged," Nope, why?"
"Nick's late! And it's his first day on the job! That dumb fox..." She mumbled.
"What was that?"
Judy spun around to see Nick standing with two coffees in his hands and a half closed lid look, as usual. She blushed in embarrassment, covering her mouth.
"I'm so sorry Nick," she squeaked.
"It's fine, no big deal," he shrugged, handing her a coffee.
Judy inhaled before taking a sip of the coffee.
Smiling at Nick she patted him on the shoulder. "Thanks."
She kept her hand there before Nick felt uncomfortable and shook it off. Of course he liked her as a friend, but whenever she got close or touched him anywhere, it felt warm and very off. So he tried to avoid the feeling.
"Alright let's go," he said, walking off toward the other officers.
Judy grinned and followed him. The two sat in one chair due to their small size. Doesn't mean it was comfortable. Judy moved around, making Nick annoyed. Finally, out of annoyance, he pulled her into his lap since she was so light. She blinked rapidly before she realized what he did. A blush rose on her cheeks as she felt his claws dig, not on purpose, into her waist. Judy remained completely still while Nick was trying to look around her head.
'Ohmygoshohmygosh...' Judy kept repeating to herself.
"Ok guys settle down!"roared the chief.
Nick liked the feeling of her on his lap, but he would never admit that. He didn't care if she was a rabbit, she felt like any other fox, just smaller.
"Nick, I know it's your first mission so you and Miss Hopps have to survey the area for any common crimes. Robberies and such, got it?" The chief bellowed.
Nick made a lazy soldier solute. He nodded and continued to command the other animals. Afterwards, the chief dismissed them. Judy jumped off his lap quickly, while Nick honestly missed the feeling of warmth on his groin area. Shaking his head, he refused to let the thoughts get to him. Instead he followed her off to the big police car. Jumping in, Judy started the car and waited for Nick to get in.
"Ready for an annoying trip with Mr. Sly?" Nick asked sarcastically.
Judy narrowed her eyes,"Very funny, let's just get going."
Nick looked out the window,"So Judy, what's your parents like?"
She shrugged as she started driving. "They're parents, not really supportive of my choice of being an officer. But ya know..." She trailed off.
He waited for her to continue but knew she didn't want too. Instead he cleared his throat.
"You're a great officer Whiskers, remember that," Nick told she firmly.
Judy blushed slightly,"... Thanks, you'll be a great officer too."
Nick shrugged," Maybe, I don't know."
"What do you mean?" She asked curiously.
He sighed deeply, looking out the window again. "I mean that I don't think I'm cut out for this... I'm suppose to be a con-artist not a police..."
Judy giggled," Nick you're just doubting yourself, I did multiple times, trust me. You just have to give it a chance, it's your first mission."
Nick's ears lowered," Are you sure?"
"Yes of course Nicky, you're a pretty slick fox that can trick any bad guy into doing what you want. You would be a perfect cop, that's why the chief hired you," Judy explained, glancing at him a couple of times.
He grinned," Don't call me Nicky."
"Don't call me Whiskers... Or Carrots, or honey bunny, or-"
"Ok ok I get it, but I like whiskers and honey bunny so... Just don't call me Nicky all the time," he teased.
She shrugged," I'll call you Nicky when you call me whiskers."
"Yeah ok, you win, I'll slow down... Carrots," he smirked.
"Good... Nicky," she said, sticking out her tongue.
He harrumphed playfully, after that they remained silent. Until Judy spotted someone running across the street with a sac of money over his back. Judy stopped the car immediately and hopped out along with Nick, who however went at a little slower pace. He tried his best to keep up with Judy but she hopped way too fast. They began to chase the guy down, Judy pulled out her elephant tranquilizer while Nick struggled to remove it.
"In the name of the law, I command you to stop this instance!" Judy screamed.
Nick didn't know what to say, so he yelled," Uh yes! What she said!"
Judy glanced back at him with confusion before speeding off, aiming the gun. Nick tried doing the same thing but couldn't focus on multi tasking so he tripped, making the tranquilizer go off. It went straight over Judy's head and right into the back of the thief. He fell instantly. Judy skidded and turned around to see Nick face first in the floor. He fell, she knew it, she knew he was going to be crushed. The money spilled on the floor but she didn't care, she ran to Nick's side and helped him up.
"Nick you ok? You got him, good aim," she said gently.
He sat up and rubbed his fur, wiping dirt from it. "Lucky shot," he spat, throwing off his metal police badge.
Judy's expression softened as she rubbed his face. "Hey Nick, you did great, we got him."
He loved the feeling of her paws against his face but he was too disappointed to even think. So he moved away and stood up, walking back to the car. Judy picked up the badge, dusted it off, and handled the rest of the mission. She struggled to pick up the raccoon thief and put him in the back of the car. Judy collected the money and returned it to a local jewelry store. Then she drove to the courthouse and turned the raccoon guy there.
After all the commotion, the chief decided to let them off for the rest of the day. Judy drove Nick home in silence. When he got out, Judy followed him.
"Nick wait!" Judy yelped, grabbing onto his shirt.
He yanked away and turned to her," What Judy?"
She stepped back and pulled from her pockets the badge. "You're an officer Nick, remember that. I can't do this without you." Judy returned the badge to him.
He looked at it, and tried giving it back to her. "Just stop please."
Judy shook her head and pressed it against his chest. "Please Nick, you're my partner, I need you."
He just stared at her before taking the back and smirking. "Ok... Only because you need me."
He leaned in and smirked while Judy lightly slapped his snout. "Ah stop it."
Nick chuckled," Thanks honey bunny."
Judy blushed," Oh shut up Nicky."
"Ok fine fine... Whiskers."
