ON A scale from one to ten, how much do I regret consuming too much ice cream in the afternoon? Zero because I love ice cream too much to regret anything. However, fate has decided that Alice was to cook a delicious meal for dinner because I am now sat at the dining table with mouth watering food; grilled chicken and a cold potato salad and I was too full to eat anything. Now my level of regret has risen to a mere three because it smelt heavenly.
"Full?" Alice asked, with an almost teasing voice. She knew that we went out for ice cream, for we bumped into them just before we entered the house and Molly's telltale stains on her clothes gave us away.
I nodded meekly, however, I didn't want to disappoint Alice so I took a scoop of potatoes and a piece of the chicken. "You've got a great appetite, even better than Connor who has somehow disappeared." Alice huffed. "It's a Sunday night and he doesn't even want to stay for dinner, that boy I tell you."
Charles nodded his head in agreement but taking no action. "One day he'll understand the importance of family." Charles mused vaguely at the head of the table, sipping his drink slowly.
At night, I tossed and turned in my bed, my hair causing great discomfort (thanks, Connor and Jason) and it felt too hot to sleep. I glanced at my phone which read 10:05 PM and it was too late to go out, in my opinion. Suddenly, my phone pinged with an incoming text message.
10:05 PM Connor
Are you asleep yet?
10:06 PM Jasmine
No shit Sherlock. What do you want?
10:06 PM Connor
My bike ran out of fuel. Can you pick me up?
10:06 PM Jasmine
If you haven't noticed, I don't have a license yet. Besides my sense of direction is horrible.
There was a lull in our conversation via text, probably Connor trying to figure things out. I was only sixteen and I haven't even obtained my driving license yet because I keep putting it off. And my sense of direction is horrible.
10:10 PM Connor
Meet me @ the park in 10 minutes.
10:10 PM Jasmine
You can't be serious right?
10:10 PM Connor
Help me out, please.
10:11 PM Jasmine
Fine, because you used please.
I let out a quiet groan however, I was mildly thankful to get out of the house for a while because it was quite stuffy and warm in my room. I changed out of my pajamas into something warm for the outside (ironically). I tugged two-day old jeans and left my pajama t-shirt on before padding downstairs softly.
There were voices coming from the downstairs study. It was Charles and Alice. I decided to ignore their conversation until my name was dropped.
"Jasmine's perfect for Connor, I can't see why you don't think that way." Alice retorted. I could hear footsteps in the room, frustrated ones. What could the conversation be about and why was I mentioned?
"I don't know Alice, what if Connor breaks her heart? I don't want Connor to do the same thing I did to you." Charles exhaled loudly, the wall groaning quietly from the weight of his body leaning against it.
The room was silent for a moment. I decided that yet again, it was not in my place to eavesdrop and left the house quietly, slipping a warm jacket on top of my t-shirt because it gets chilly at night. Holding my phone tightly in my hand, I decided to walk as quickly as possible to the park to help Connor with whatever the heck he has done this time.
