Chapter 16: to grandmas house

Mabel's POV

"hey Mabel? some of the little kids are crying because they got separated from their parents....could you maybe read to them or something?" Pacifica asked. i nodded, it felt awkward having Pacifica be so nice to me. i guess that's because she loves dipper and we are twins...? i don't know but thinking about it makes my head hurt.

i made my way slowly over to the little kids with a book and sat in a chair. my stomach still hurt from the stitches but it was bearable. "hey kids, i heard that you guys are sad. want me to read to you?" i said as sweetly as possible. they sniffled and looked at me with sad big eyes. they gathered around where i was sitting and sat down. i began to read the 3 little pigs but stopped when they started to cry again. hmmm...oh i know!

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow why, oh, why can't I" i sang as the children began to calm down. i looked over to a near by tree and saw Robbie leaning against it, smiling and staring at me. i smiled at him and waved. he blushed and waved back.

a sad feeling washed over me like a wave when i looked back at the children staring at me with big wide eyes and remembering why they were crying. i smiled at them and said "now who wants to play hide and go seek?" their eyes lit up with joy as they all smiled and raised their hands "me!!" they all said and stood up.

i covered up my eyes and began to count "1...2......3....4.." i began and they all started giggling and i could hear them run away. i finished counting slowly to 25 and shouted "ready or not here i come!" i said and uncovered my eyes. i began to look around for them, searching bushes, and looking behind cars. i found 2 of them but there were 14 of them in total. i found 3 more and began to feel tired and dizzy. i began to walk again but it felt like my legs just turned to jelly beneath me.

i fell to the ground, luckily it was soft like mulch i guess? so it didn't hurt so bad but Robbie came running over quickly "oh my gosh Mabs! are you okay???" he said worriedly pulling up my shirt to check my stitches. i blushed and pulled my shirt down because they were fine "I'm fine Robbie." i giggled. "okay Mabs.." Robbie said smiling at me. i smiled back at him and kissed his cheek.

"it was sweet of you to worry about me though." i said smiling brightly at him. "no problem Mabs now i think you better find the rest of the kids before they pee their pants waiting for you to find them." he chuckled. i giggled and ran off to find them. it was around lunch time when i finally found them all. i helped make lunch and went to hang out with Robbie.

Robbie's POV

after lunch Mabel walked over to me and sat next to me on the back of  one of the trucks. she leaned against me and yawned. "I'm so tired Robbie..." she said beginning to doze off. i gently pulled her onto my lap "its okay Mabs you can take a nap." i said smiling at her. she smiled back sleepily, closing her eyes, and resting her head against my chest.

i stood up and carried her to our tent the adults gave us. i placed her gently down on the plush sleeping bag and laid beside her. i must have fallen asleep because one of the older women who came with us woke us up and said that we were having a meeting. Mabel and i both got up and walked over to where the rest of the group were having a meeting.

we sat together and began to listen "this is where we are right now" ford said pointing to a place on a big map being held up by two tall men. something about this area seems familiar though, now that i look at it. i looked at the map and realized where we are. from the way we traveled we made it to right outside Portland Oregon where my grandmother lives!

"Mabs." i whispered to her. "yeah Robbie?" she whispered back to me. "i know where we are." i whispered back smiling at her. "really? cool!" she whispered back smiling as well. "yeah..my grandma lives near here.." i whispered smiling at the ground. i looked back at Mabel and saw she had 'that look' in her eyes. she had a huge grin "lets go meet her!" she said not so quietly.

the rest of the adults turned to us and our faces turned red. "s-sorry...just got excited.." Mabel said smiling nervously. "we were discussing death counts.." Ford deadpanned. i put my hand over my face to hide the smile that was growing slowly. 'Talk about timing..' i kept thinking holding in a laugh. "whats so funny?" Mabel whispered to me.

"nothing." i whispered back, removing my hand from my face. "come on. lets go for a walk." i whispered, grabbing her hand and sneaking out of the meeting. as we were walking i put my arm around Mabel's shoulders, pulling her close to me.  "so...i was thinking that we could ask ford if i could go and check on her.." i said smiling a bit at her. "okay can i come with?" she asked giving me the puppy dog eyes. "of course you can Mabs." i chuckled. "YAY!" she said, hugging me tightly.

Mabel's POV

I got into the truck and sat in the back with Robbie. earlier he asked ford and he said it was okay so we are leaving now, the sooner the better. the car hummed to life and we began to drive farther and farther away from the camp. for some reason  i got a sick feeling in my stomach like something was wrong. maybe it was just being separated from the others again.

yeah that's probably it. i fell asleep against Robbie some time during the ride. 3 hours later, apparently the car stopped and i was being woken up by Robbie "sleeping beauty its time to wake up.." Robbie said softly in my ear. "hmm...5 more minutes..." i said wanting to go to sleep again. "sorry Mabs but we're here.." he chuckled.

authors note: okay sorry its short but I'm ending it here because I'm tired. sorry about taking so long. I've had really bad writers block and on top of that school has been taking a lot out of me lately.
