He closed the door behind me and I walked a couple feet away from the house and turned around. The one with the black T-shirt on look at me and said, "I guess I should introduce myself. I am Darry Curtis oldest member of the gang."
I smiled at him and the cute guy with the plaid shirt move closer to me and said, "Sodapop Curtis, but you can call me Soda." The other cute one stood forward and said, "Ponyboy Curtis, but you can call me Pony."
The one with the huge muscles said, "Steve Randle." I kept smiling not thinking of how awkward this was.
Then the guy with the Mickey mouse shirt said a word and said, "The names Keith, but my friends call me Two-bit."
I had a confused look on my face but I took his word for it. Then the boy with the blue Jean jacket moved a little and said in a whisper like voice, "I'm Johnny Cade."
I looked at all of them and said nervously, "Nice to meet y'all, I'm Abby Stewart." Darry asked, "Did you just move here?" I answered and said, "Yeah straight out of the country."
Two-bit looked at me and said, "Are you rich or poor?" I thought about that question for awhile and said, "Well, I ain't rich but I wouldn't say I'm poor."
Two-bit said, "So, I guess that makes you a Greaser like the rest of us." I asked, "What's a Greaser?" Pony spoke up, "Well, you see, Socs are the rich and snobby kids on the West side of town.
They think they can jump us, Greasers, any time of the day and that's exactly what they do. We're the Greasers, the guys who don't have money to do whatever we want, it's like we get punished everyday."
I said, "Oh." Steve asked, "You got a blade on you?" I said, "No." He grabbed one out of his pocket and said, "That's an extra one I've had it for awhile now.
The Socs don't care if your a girl or not they'll still jump you, you can't trust anyone." I put it in my back pocket and said, "Good to know."
Soda said, "I'm hungry y'all wanna go down to The Dingo for lunch?" We all agreed even though I don't know what The Dingo is. When we walked over to The Dingo, I found out it was a restaurant.
