After Mahabharat they return to their respective kingdoms, rule for few decades (around 35 years) and then leave this world for ever having served their purpose of life. The major events in breif are:

Vedavyasa instructs Arjun that the Pandavas' purpose of life has been over.Yudisthir coronates Parikshit and the 5 Pandavas along with Draupadi set out for their journey towards heaven by climbing the mountain Himalaya. A dog follows them on their way up to the mountain.Along their way while climbing the mountain one after another in the order of Draupadi, Sahadev, Nakul, Arjun and Bheem fall down and die.

The first to die was Draupadi, she was imperfect because she preferred Arjun over her other husbands.

Then it was Sahadev, imperfect because he was smug about his knowledge.

Followed by Nakul, imperfect because he was arrogant about his good looks.

Then fell Arjun, imperfect because he was always jealous of other archers.

And then, Bheem, imperfect because he was a glutton.

Yudisthir alone survives and Indra comes to welcome to heaven him with his chariot. Indra asks Yudisthir to leave the dog behind and enter into the chariot and go to heaven. Yudisthir declines the offer to enter into heaven unless the dog also goes with him as the dog has befriended him. The dog then becomes Yama and tells Yudisthir that he has passed the test. No sooner than Yudisthir entered the heaven than he saw Duryodhan along with all the other Kauravas present there. Surprised, he expressed his anger on seeing the adharmis in the sacred place. His annoyance was visible as he mentioned the fact that - Duryodhan was the sole reason why the Pandavas had to slaughter so many good and worthy kinsmen that supported the Kauravas. He then asked about his brothers, The son of Radha, the biggest Daanveer - Karna, the mighty man - Bheem, the greatest archer - Arjun, and the two twin brothers who were known for their skills. Yudisthir was then taken to a place where his brothers and his wife resided.
To his surprise, Yudisthir saw all his brothers including Karna in Hell. The God mentioned that they were here for all the wrong things they had done - Karna had insulted Draupadi, Bheem and Arjun had killed Duryodhan and Karna respectively by forgery while Nakul and Sehdev helped them in Yudisthir Highly annoyed, Yudisthir then questioned the gods about the sin of the Kauravas - He asked if the people who always followed dharma, did good and even maintained the Kshtariya rules are in Hell, why the sinners and the adharmis are living peacefully in the Heaven. Surprisingly God said that the Kauravas are in heaven right now because they died as a kshtariya fighting for their homeland. You might now wonder then why wasn't Karna along with them. Well, that's because Karna was not fighting from his homeland but only for the sake of Duryodhan's friendship though he was aware that he was siding adharm.
God after seeing Yudisthir's sadness then replied, "Of both good and bad there is abundance, O chief of men. He who enjoys first the fruits of his good acts must afterwards endure Hell. He, on the other hand, who first endures Hell, must afterwards enjoy Heaven. He whose sinful acts are many enjoys Heaven first. It is for this, O king, that desirous of doing thee good, I caused thee to be sent for having a view of Hell."

God further says that Yudisthir is in Hell right now because he deceived Drona in the war. And continues, "Come, O chief of men, all of them have been cleansed of their sins. All those kings who had aided you and who have been slain in battle, have all attained to Heaven. Come and behold them, O foremost one of Bharata's race."

That was the LAST test for Yudisthir who had already passed the 'dog' test. He was shown a scene where his wife and brothers were suffering in hell when the Kauravas were enjoying life in heaven. He was given an option of going to heaven or hell. He chose to join his brothers in hell rather than be in heaven by himself and thus - all the Pandavas were transported to heaven.

Thus, after many such series of events Shri Krishna and the Pandavas leave this mortal world. The city of Dwaraka submerges into the ocean and eventually the present age of Kali Yuga begins.
