Zev Damon was a 9 year old boy who's parents hated him very much. This story of his life will be told in his perspective.
I am sitting in my room reading my cruddy romance novel. My parents gave me only this book to read. A stale piece of bread sits next to me on a paper plate. I am not really reading the book. I am staring out of the filthy window. Even though I can not see very much I still look at it. My family has never been nice to me and all of the kids on my block are friends. I would talk to them but my window is sealed shut. I can't leave my room. EVER. The only company I get is my dying pet gerbil named Berry. I climb into my not-so-air mattress. I can never get much sleep but I try anyway. At night I sneak out of my room and eat real food.
I have been laying in bed now for an hour and a half. I stand up and walk to my door. Berry has a toy that is a broken wire. I take it from his cage and lock pick the door. The door creaks open slowly. Downstairs, I see three sandwiches from my family's dinner. I slide silently down the stairs and grab a sandwich. An alarm blares. Violent swearing comes from upstairs as my father bursts out of his room. He rushes downstairs and grabs my shirt sleeves. I am pulled into my room and pushed to the floor. "What the heck you doing, kid!?" He screams. My mom and sister are now in my room. I try to pull away but my dad grabs my head and does not let me move. "I'm hungry." I reply. "BULL CRAP!" He rages. "YOU SHOULD HAVE EATEN YOUR BREAD!" My mom chimes in. Dad takes off his belt and begins whipping me.
Two hours later after more yelling and getting hurt, I have been tied to a broken chair. My sister had punched me in the nose and it was still gushing blood. I try to wriggle free of the rope. Somehow, I eventually got away from the chair. The whole time, I had been thinking of what to do to have a better life. I could hurt them. No. I could hide from them forever. No. I could die. No. I could...run away!! YES!!!! For the rest of the night I create the escape plan.
