Her soul was lit on fire,
Mind in the clouds above.
She wouldn't even dare to breathe,
She'd never been in love.
Heard so much about it,
How perfect it could be,
She wanted to be happy,
She wanted to be free.
"Finally found my love," she thought,
She went to tell her mom.
She told her of the girl she loved,
Her mom had called her wrong.
Said words of such hatefulness,
And turned the girl away.
She sat in stillness, crying,
"Why'd she act that way?"
Just because she loved a girl,
Her mom loved her no more,
Sent her going on her way,
Loudly slammed the door.
"It's alright," the young girl thought,
"I'll stay with a friend."
But as she told them what went down,
Friendships met their end.
They all looked at her strangely,
When they thought she wouldn't see.
And as she learned what they all thought,
The girl wanted to leave.
"Better off without me,"
She said, tears on her face,
Knew that she should leave them there,
Find herself a place.
Or maybe she would just give up,
And let depression eat her.
She no longer had her hope,
No longer was she eager.
She was not a happy girl,
She had lost her smile,
The one that stretched from ear to ear,
That went on for a mile.
Just as she decided,
She would live no longer,
The gentle smell of violets,
Grew a little stronger.
She looked up from the concrete,
And stood up very quickly.
Nausea overwhelmed her,
As she grew so sickly.
She couldn't take the hate no more,
Especially not from she,
The girl that stood before her,
The girl that set her free.
The girl who set her soul on fire,
The girl she grew to know.
She hoped she wouldn't turn away,
She hoped she wouldn't go.
"I heard about your coming out,
And I'm sure that you've been scared.
I just wanted to let you know,
That someone really cared."
