For teaching me that drugs are wrong.
For teaching me not to give into peer pressure.
For teaching me to say no.
But you didn't teach me how to push him away when he wouldn't take no for an answer.
You didn't teach me what words would stop my best friend from killing themself.
You didn't teach me how to recognize addiction.
You didn't teach me what an abusive relationship looks like.
You didn't teach me that people who commit suicide are not cowards.
You didn't teach me that I am an independent young woman who is perfectly capable of accomplishing whatever I put my mind to.
You didn't teach me how to stand up for myself, or that I even could.
You didn't teach me to be my own savior.
I taught myself that.
So thank you.
For absolutely nothing.
