Chapter 5
"Hoosiers is not only the best basketball movie ever, it is the best sports movie ever made."
"No." Lydia said and I rolled my eyes.
Somehow I had gotten roped into going to the movie store with Lydia and Jackson for their movie-date they were having at home. I wasn't part of the date, nor was I going to watch whatever movie they were getting. I think having me there just made Lydia feel more in control.
"It's got Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper."
"No." Lydia repeated.
Jackson made a face of great annoyance. "Lydia, I swear to God you're gunna like it."
"No."
Jackson looked at her and rose his voice. "I am not watching The Notebook again."
"I-I kind of want to see The Notebook and Hoosiers." I spoke up, only to have them both turn to me with murderous looks. "O-okay. Got it. Never mind."
And that's how Jackson and I ended up in the movie store searching for Lydia's favorite movie. "Can somebody help me find The Notebook?" Jackson yelled out. I kept looking up and down the aisle near him as he looked around for a worker. "Hello? Is anybody working here?"
I made my way back to Jackson when I couldn't find the movie. "Is no one here?"
"Hell if I know." He said, moving forward as he looked at something down the store's main aisle.
I looked over, seeing something laying on the floor. I followed behind Jackson warily, the scary movie playing in the background making the moment ten times scarier than it should have be. I took ahold of the sleeve of his jacket as we got closer and turned down the aisle where the thing was, only to find a man lying on the floor, his throat slashed open. I moved back with a scream, staring at the blood that splattered the floor in horror, only to run into a ladder. It fell, along with the light above it and all of the lights in the store went out. I stopped myself from falling by grabbing onto a movie shelf and gave Jackson a desperate look. "We need to get out of here."
Before we could make a move, a growl rang out and we both slowly turned around. There, at the end of the aisle, was a huge wolf man with glowing red eyes. Jackson pulled me to the floor with him as he moved behind an aisle and out of that things view. Jackson peaked his head out to see if it was still there and tears began to flood my eyes out of fear.
Jackson suddenly gasped and pulled his head back away from the opening as another growl rang out. He breathed heavily, looking to me. I covered my mouth to keep from sobbing. Was this how I was going to die?
Some of the movies above us fell as the creature moved around and Jackson looked out of the aisle again to see where it was. A crashing sound came from behind us and we gave each other confused looks. I figured out what was happening a fraction of a second before Jackson pushed him out of the aisle just as the wall of movies came crashing down on me. My chest immediately felt as if it was being burned with a torch. It became hard to breath, the weight of the shelf crushing me and the blinding pain in my chest too much for me to handle. I began to sob. Loudly.
"Phoebe?" Jackson asked and I looked up through my tears, seeing a crack of light at the end of the shelf where I could see his fingers grasping the edge and trying to lift it off of me. "Phoebe are you okay? Come on!" He yelled at himself as he tried to lift the shelf again. I saw a large shadow fly across the ground and suddenly Jackson wasn't there anymore. From what I could see, Jackson was on the ground, that thing on top of him.
"No." I mumbled out in horror. "No! Leave him alone!" I could hear Jackson panting, his breath becoming labored, but no screaming, no slashing sounds. "Please, somebody help us!" I sobbed out.
