THIRD POV:
It was a stormy night outside and Maria's screams were louder than the lightning itself. Her screaming echoed all around the hospital with no familiar face to comfort her. Giving birth was painful, to twins it was harder, but at the age of sixteen it was tripple the pain.
"One more push" The doctor was yelling over her screams. Maria clutched the nurse's hand and pushed until she was out of breath. A baby's cry was heard making Maria's heart skip a beat. It was her baby.
"It's a boy" The doctor said in joy handing him to nurse to clean him up. She didn't have time to look at her child before another contraction hit her hard signaling that her girl is ready to come out. Maria started wailing in pain, squeezing a nurse's arm as hard as she could until another cry was heard.. It was her daughter.
"Congrats Maria, it's a healthy little girl" He said handing her second precious one to the nurse.
The girl whom she intended to call Sophia was born an hour after her little baby Nicolas.. Maria was only sixteen, but she swore that as soon as she gets out of the public hospital, she's going to find an appartment and a job so she could take care of her babies.
As soon as her babies were brought to her room, a nurse helped her hold the little ones. At first she couldn't manage holding one baby right let alone two, but she got it after a few minutes. She stared at her little sleeping angels promising them silently that she'll never leave, that she'll protect and love them until the end of time, she promised them that she'll do whatever it takes to take care of them. She never knew that she won't be able to fulfil her promise. As soon as she finished her promise, the door swung open. A man wearing a suit came in. He was tall but slim, his brown eyes were tired, but confidence was radiating off of him.. He looked pale and as soon as he looked at her, his nose scrunched up with disgust that a sixteen year old, a child, a girl of his daughter's age had two babies.
"Wh..Who are you?" Maria stammered in fear.. She didn't know who he was or what he wanted and he didn't look like a doctor.. All she knew was that he came into her room and by the look on his face, he started judging her. She had a feeling in her gut that he's bad news for her.. She tightened her grip on the babies and looked at the guy in the eye waiting for a response.
"My name is John Becket, I'm from child protective services.. I'm here to take the kids away from you as you are unfit to be a mother" He said as calm as possible, as if he's reciting something that means nothing. But it did, it meant that her life would be shattered more than it already was.
"What?!" She yelled emotions filling her voice "No, you're not taking them away from me, they're all I have" She clutched them as hard as she could to keep them away from the heartless man.
"Ma'am, there was a compliant about you not being able to take care of your children".
"Who would file a complaint when I just gave birth hours ago" She yelled at the man.
"Here's a paper permiting me to take the kids away from you"
"I don't care about a stupid paper" she said firmly as tears wetted her face.
"We either do this the easy way or the hard way" Maria didn't move, she couldn't move.
"The hard way it is" The man said grabbing baby Sophia who woke up wailing after being separated from her mom. He reached to grab Carlos, but Maria clung to him as if she was clinging to life. Maria kept crying, telling him that she'll find a job and an appartment, but the man grabbed the boy ripping him from his mother's arms. The boy hiccuped for a second then started crying like his sister. Nurses were outside looking at the seen infront of them with pitty in their eyes but Maria didn't care.. She wanted her babies back.
"How can I get them back?" She cried.
"You'll have to turn your life upside down then try to get them back" The tired man said with a little harsh tone as he walked out of the room taking her little ones away from her. She tried to get up, but she winced in pain and laid back on the hospital bed crying her heart out for losing her children.. Her own flesh and blood.. A part of her was taken away and she couldn't do anything. She just laid in bed with a broken heart filling the air with her soulful cries.
