Charlotte gulped. She couldn't move, she couldn't think. The monster was a black wolf with golden eyes, the same size as her. It growled. Charlotte could feel its breath. "S-Serena" she stuttered. "Run." Serena hesitated but did as she was told and sprinted for the house.
Charlotte didn't leave the stare of the Monster. She slowly grabbed a branch from the ground and held it up. "S-stay back" she said trying to look confident. The storm was growing stronger with lightning flashing not far off.
The monster didn't budge. Charlotte closed her eyes and swung at it. The Monster fell back and went in a pouncing position.
The lightning was right above them. The Monster lunged forward. Charlotte gave one last swing and just when the Monster was going to bite her the lightning struck the branch and shocked Charlotte. She gasped and let go of the branch the Monster got frightened and ran into the shadows. Charlotte fell to her knees panting. A flashlight shown in her eyes, she looked up to see the man who talked to her parents.
"What in the world did you get yourselves into!" Shouted her mother once she heard what happened and once Serena was asleep. "You could've gotten yourselves killed, luckily Mark was here to find you."
Charlotte hung her head low. "Sorry."
"It's alright, she was just trying to protect herself" said Mark. Charlotte looked up at him, surprised he was backing her up. Her mother sighed.
"Your off the hook." Charlotte gave Mark a grateful smile.
"Welp I better get going" said Mark putting on his coat. "Oh and Charlotte" he said to get her attention. "I may have been wrong about you." Charlotte blinked, confused at Mark as he left.
The room was silent. "Charlotte should go to bed" said her father. Charlotte nodded and went upstairs. She peeked in Serena's room and noticed she was awake with her blanket up to her chin.
"Charlotte what happened?" She asked. Charlotte crossed her arms and leaned against the doorway. "Well surprisingly I didn't die from the lightning and the Monster got away."
Serena's eyes glowed. "Maybe it's because you got your powers activated by it." Charlotte raised one eyebrow. "Yeah I doubt that, goodnight." Charlotte walked down the hallway to her room and dove onto her bed. Finally she could rest.
