Run, run, run. Cut. Throw. Run, run, run. Turn.
Same thing, every day. Nothing changing. Two years of this klunk and still nothing. It's enough to drive someone mad to say the least, but Rose keeps running. The second these doors open to time they close, she's running the Maze.
She reaches her last dead end and rolls her eyes, knowing nothing has changed, just like every other day. She takes a few minutes to catch her breath and get a few sips of water before heading back to the Glade. Her mind staying fairly blank, focused on getting back. She kicks a few rocks and starts jogging back to the Glade, speeding up and slowing down to make sure she makes it back before the door close without exhausting herself. All Rose wants to do is get back to the mapping room, get the maps traced out, and get food from Frypan.
It's that time of the month where a Greenie comes up, so she picks up her pace a little. Since Rose has entered the Glade, she's been the only girl. For a year and a half, she's been hoping for another girl. She loves the guys but it'd be nice to have another girl around. If the Greenie isn't a girl, her next hope is that they're a kid. Chuck's the youngest and needs a friend closer to his age.
Rose keeps a steady pace and she can see Newt pacing by the door when she turns the corner to the corridor to the Glade. Newt has always paced outside the doors, waiting for her to return, ever since she became a runner a few months back. Once she's insight, Newt goes back to his job. He seems to be a little paranoid on whether Rose will make it back before the doors close. It doesn't make sense to anyone, especially Rose. Newt knows the rules and enforces them just as much as Alby and that means he's not allowed to enter the Maze under any circumstances, it's pointless for him to pace outside the Doors for her. It annoys Rose a little since he barely talks to her. She's quite good at understanding these guys, but Newt confuses her to no end.
"What a shank." Minho snickers as he runs next to Rose.
"Yeah, no kidding." Rose scuffs, knowing he's talking about Newt.
Minho and Rose keep their pace, side by side as they run to the mapping room. When they arrive, they take their seats with their paper and pencil. The room is silent. The mapping room is the only place that's silent with more than one person. The rest of Glade is noisy. But everyone stays quiet to get their job done. It's tedious and boring, so the quicker it gets done, the quicker they'll be able to move on with their day and get some food. Rose doesn't mind it so much. She likes to sit in a quiet environment after running. It's soothing.
Two other runners finish before Rose, but not much faster. She finishes and is on her way to the kitchen to grab some food from Frypan. When Rose gets to the kitchen, Frypan already has a cheese sandwich ready for her just like every other day.
"How's the Greenie?" Rose asks as she takes a bite from her sandwich.
"Dunno. He's been freaking out like the rest of us but hasn't done much but ask a bunch of questions. He's sitting over there by Chuck." Frypan says as he jerks his head up in the direction of the tree by the Deadheads. Rose just nods and heads over to the tree. She didn't plan on talking to the Greenie, unless they were a girl, but since he's with Chuck, she won't have much of a choice. Chuck is like her little brother and she needs her daily dose of him, make sure he's still doing okay.
"Hey, Rose!" Chuck yells with enthusiasm. Chuck says it as if he hasn't seen her in years which brings a smile to Rose's face.
"Hey, Chuckie." Rose laughs as she sits in front of him and the Greenie. "I'm Rose." She says as she sticks her hand out towards the Greenie. He gives her a withdrawn look but shakes her hand lightly and quick before moving his hand back to his lap. It's clear he's scared and confused.
