"Ready?" Minho yelled, looking at Thomas who nodded. "Okay! Now!" Minho said as he turned, leading the group towards the deadly creatures.
The Gladers rush forward. Thomas, Teresa, Rose, and Chuck at the very back. Minho and Newt leading the way towards the Grievers with their make shift spears in the air. Yelling and screeching consumed the air as a path was made to the Cliff. It was becoming a blood bath. Rose tried her hardest not to pay attention to action surrounding her but her eyes kept darting towards Minho and Newt, making sure they would be okay. Every time she glanced, they were holding their own with no problems. Rose's eyes were pulled away from them when a Griever pulled Chuck.
"Chuck!" Rose yelled as she grabbed his hand, Teresa not letting her grip on his other. With the strength of the two girls, they were able to pull Chuck away from the Griever, seemingly completely unharmed.
"Thanks." Chuck said trying to catch his breath.
"Come on!" Rose yelled pulling the boy with her, trying to catch up to Thomas. A pinch of guilt hit Rose when she realized she was too busy worrying about the others and not Chuck, the one who'd need the most help. The four Gladers reached the Cliff. Thomas first and the other three nearly colliding into him and sending him off the Cliff.
"Okay, Teresa you go first." Thomas said. Teresa didn't ask questions. She backed away and took a running start. Within in seconds, she was disappearing in the invisible Hole.
"Woah." Chuck said as his jaw hung open.
"Woah is right. You're next." Thomas said. Chuck looked between Thomas and Rose as fear filled his entire body.
"I-I don't think-"
"Come on, we'll help you." Rose cut Chuck off knowing they didn't have time to waste. "Thomas, move your arms like this." Rose said as she moved her right arm at a ninety degree angel and grasp her wrist with her left hand. Thomas wrinkled his for forehead but did just Rose said. "Okay now clasp your hand over my free wrist like me." Rose said as she grabbed Thomas's left wrist and he followed her lead. "Okay squat a little so Chuck can stand in our hands." Rose continued. "Come on, Chuckie. Stand on top of our hands, your hands on our shoulders and we're gonna toss you into the Hole." Chuck did as told and moved onto their hands. "Okay count of three and we toss and Chuckie lets go. Make sure to move your hands down every count to gain momentum." Rose kept her instructions clear and quick. With a nod of Thomas and Chuck's head, Rose began. "One. Two. Three." Rose yelled as they tossed the boy into the air and watched him slide into the Hole. Rose smirked just slightly knowing her quick thinking worked.
"You go." Thomas jerked his head.
"No, you go."
"I'm not doing this."
"So go ya bloody shank! You know the freakin' code if someone else goes down, I'm staying up here. So GO." Rose spat. Thomas didn't argue as he took a few steps back and jumped into the hole. Rose took one last look behind her. A few Gladers were on the group already but Newt and Minho were putting up a good fight so she took her chance. She backed up and run towards the edge of the Cliff and leaped. She slid right into the Hole where she saw her three fellow Gladers safe and sound.
"Kind of surprised you actually came down here." Thomas said as he helped Rose from the ground.
"Yeah, well." Rose said in monotone as she looked above her, almost hoping the fight would have ended.
"The computer's over here." Teresa said as she moved her flashlight behind her.
"Well put the code in! Hurry!" Chuck demanded.
"Chuck, you and Rose go watch for Grievers while we handle the code." Thomas nodded towards Rose. This was where Rose had to put all her faith in Thomas and Teresa, that they were actually on the same side.
Rose and Chuck walked towards the hall, taking small glances behind them when they heard the sound of scraping metal and a thud. A Griever jumped down the hole and was now directly in front of them. It's spikes coming out of it's blubbery body, ready to attack them.
"Get behind me!" Rose yelled as she push the boy behind her. "Toss me a bloody spear!" Rose yelled as a spear was handed to her. She jabbed at the Griever knowing the most it would do was waste time. "Put the shuck code in already!" Panic striking every word. Thomas came from behind her with Teresa's spear and took another jab. "Together!" Rose yelled as the two of them jabbed the monster together causing it let out a shriek.
"They're beatable." Thomas said. Rose raised an eyebrow in utter confusion. Did he not think they were beatable before? Before Rose could question him, Thomas was jumping on the back of the Griever and jabbing it. Rose didn't waste anymore time. She jabbed the Griever as many times as she could as Thomas whacked it's metal spikes off. The two of them attacking the monster was making it weaker and weaker. With a final jab and whack, yellow goo started oozing from the creature and it collapsed on the floor, lifeless. Thomas jumped off and stared at Rose. They had looks of confusion but also pride.
"You killed it." Chuck said in disbelief.
"Wasn't so hard." Thomas gave a cocky grin.
"Shut your hole." Rose chuckled.
"What's the problem?" Thomas shouted towards Teresa who was facing the computer. Thomas was jogging up to her before she could turn around.
Rose stayed behind Thomas with Chuck as the boy hugged her.
"Scared were ya?" Rose said with sarcasm.
"Nah, I know you're tough." Chuck smiled as he pulled away. Relief seemed to wash over the area but was short lived when they heard Teresa.
"Nothing's working!"
"What do you mean nothing's working?" Rose yelled, not wanting to leave the opening in case another Griever made it's appearance.
"I don't know!" Teresa yelled back, panic and frustration laced in every word.
Just as Rose turned back around, two Grievers were making their way down the hole, positioning themselves next to each other, making escape impossible.
"Thomas!" Chuck yelled frantically as Rose shoved the boy behind her again and started backing up, her spear pointing towards the Grievers.
"It won't let me enter the word push!" Teresa was a frantic mess at this point.
"Maybe you should just push the bottom." Chuck said as Rose pushed him closer to Thomas. The three older Gladers stopped and stared at the boy for a second as he pointed to button under the computer. With Thomas and Teresa being taller, both of them had missed it. Before Thomas could move, Teresa was already on her knees looking for the button.
"Thomas!" Rose yelled as one of the Grievers grabbed her and started dragging her across the concrete. She clawed at the ground but with no avail. Rose kicked and kicked but it was no use and all her hopes of being helped were gone when the other Griever grabbed Thomas, dragging him along the ground next to her.
"Push!" Rose and Thomas yelled as they kept trying to escape the deadly grasp.
Teresa pushed the button and everything became dead silent, nothing moved. It was as if everything around them had completely died. A few seconds pass and a sound filled the air; the sound of a sliding door opening at the end of the hallway.
A/N
In honor of the dashnerdash starting today, I decided to upload the next chapter! I thought it'd be a good time since there's quite a bit of action in this chapter compared to others. I really like it even though there isn't really any Newt and Rose. It was just fun to write something a bit different than anything I've ever done. I hope you guys like it though and I'll update soon!
