One of the men came over to the Gladers and started yelling over the noise of the guns. "Just follow me and run like your life depends on it. Because it does." The man ran toward the big glass doors, his gun in front of him as the place was filled with agonizing screams.

"Go!" One of the rescuers yelled. The Gladers hesitated just barely then started sprinting with their rescuers, some in front, and some behind. Newt gripped Rose's hand and wasn't letting go if his life depended on it. Rose glanced behind her, just enough to see Chuck's body.

"Rosie!" Newt screamed as he noticed her pulling them behind. She turned her head and picked her pace up. She knew better but needed to see it for herself. To really see that her brother was dead. It wasn't some sick joke that was being played on them. Chuck was dead and now Rose would be forever haunted by it. A day wouldn't go by without the thought of him and she knew that. But, she flipped a switch. She decided not to feel it. In this moment, she needed to keep her strength. She could grieve over the loss later but now was not the time. Rose wanted, needed, to be numb, so that's what she did. She pushed the image of Chuck's dead body and his last words out her head and focused on running, just as she did in the Maze everyday.

They moved down a dark hallway and up a flight stairs. Then down a few more hallways and staircases. That's all they were doing. Running up stairs and around different hallways. The place in itself was a giant dark Maze that smelled of electronics. Shouts came from behind and in front of them, encouraging them to keep their pace up. It didn't seem to help much but it was nice hearing words of encouragement for once.

They ran and ran until they reached the outdoors. Rain was pouring from the sky, something none of them had seen in years. They all stopped, as if to take in the wetness that fell from the sky.

"Get on! Hurry!" One of the rescuers yelled as he pointed toward a bus in front of them. The windows were cracked and it was completely soaked but it was their only way out. Rose and Newt ran side by side and onto the bus, taking a seat in the back as Minho sat in the seat next to them.

Rose and Newt watched out the window as a crazed woman tackled Thomas to the ground. Newt stood as if he were going to help his friend but Rose placed her on his shoulder and slammed him back down.

"Newt." Her voice stern but her eyes saying otherwise making Newt change his mind and stare back out the window but by then, Thomas was back up and sprinting onto the bus. He made his way to the back and to the seat behind Minho.

"You okay, Tommy?" Newt asked as he leaned over Rose to see Thomas. All Thomas could muster was a soft nod.

About half an hour had passed before Rose decided to say anything. "Newt...?" She whispered as she heard Minho softly snoring in the seat beside them.

"Hmm?" Newt hummed.

"They're gone...aren't they?" Rose looked up her boyfriend, hoping he'd be able to deny her thoughts.

"Yeah, Rosie." He looked in her eyes and he was sure he hadn't seen someone so sad. "It's gonna be okay though." Newt picked her chin up. "I promise. Me and you made it. Minho made it. Tommy, Teresa, Fry, Winston. We're okay." Regardless of the devastation Newt was feeling, he put on a brave face, and tried his absolute hardest to make Rose feel better. His best friends may have survived, but Rose lost two of hers, all in about ten minutes. She knew he had valid points. They could all be dead, but that didn't make the situation fair nor okay.

"It's not okay...any of this." She shook her head.

"I know." Newt sighed. For the first time, the boy seemed to have gone completely speechless. "But, it will be. I bloody promise you. It will be okay. Maybe not today or tomorrow, maybe not even for awhile but it will be." Newt paused as Rose gave him a slight hopeful look. "Wanna know how I know?" Newt continued but didn't wait for her to respond. "Because I am so bloody in love with you. That's how I know." Newt put on the strongest smile he could muster in that moment. Rose didn't know what it was, but whatever it was, made her feel better, like everything really would be okay, just because he said so and because Newt loved her enough that he'd do anything to make sure they'd be okay, that everything would be okay. That was enough for her. That's all she needed and Newt needed that.
