Peggy took a deep breath before opening the door. There bell jingled alerting anyone of her presence. Rose's head shot, a wide smiling making it's way across her face. "Peg!" She said jumping up. "I didn't know you'd be back so soon. It's good to have you back."
"It's good to be back." Peggy returned the smile. "Uh, is D- Mr Auerbach here?" She quickly corrected herself as she heard someone walk through the door.
"Peggy," A familiar voice vociferated, surprised.
Peggy turned around to see Daniel walking her way. "Daniel."
They greeted with a hug, rather than a handshake. "I didn't expect to see you so soon."
"Well, I took the next available flight." Peggy explained. She almost started fidgeting for she didn't know what to say but quickly corrected herself.
Daniel smiled. "Are you going to take the job?"
"Yes. Actually," Peggy accepted.
"Let's get started," Daniel motioned her to go ahead and glanced back at Rose who looked like she was going to burst. He gave her a look.
As Peggy turned the handle of the 'R to the S' cabinet, she asked Daniel, "What was the position you had in mind?"
In his best British accent he replied, "Uh, a daily."
"Daniel," Peggy said almost in a warning tone.
"Alright, alright," His voice back to normal. "How about... Running point for LA SSR?"
"Hm. That's much better," Peggy nodded. "No more lunch orders."
"No more lunch orders," Daniel assured as they walked the stairs to the office. He led Peggy into his office to bring her up to date on the latest mission. "So," He said taking a seat behind the desk. Peggy took her own in front of the desk. "We have been working on the Thompson case -uh, who shot Thompson- and we think we may have a lead."
"Oh? Any ideas on who it may be?" Peggy inquired.
Daniel nodded his head. "Vernon Masters."
Peggy was a little shocked. "Vernon Masters? I thought-"
"So did I," Daniel interrupted. "But, after the cleanup at the dump, no sign of his body anywhere."
"Yes, but if Whitney Frost did it, then there wouldn't be a body."
"That is also what I thought," Daniel said leaning forward and resting his elbows on the desk. "But there were footprints in the hotel room... We raided Vernon's home to check things out we found nothing of relevance, but we took a shoe. I know, sounds crazy, but only to check the footprints."
"The result was positive?" Peggy asked curiously.
Daniel nodded. Peggy thought for a moment then stood up. "Wait, Thompson did tell me that he had a file in his suitcase and when he went to get it in New York it was gone. He said only Vernon Masters new of that particular file."
"What was in it?"
"I have no idea," Peggy answered truthfully. "He wouldn't tell me."
"That's a big break." Daniel said sarcastically. Peggy just shrugged her shoulders. "So, whatever was in that file... Vernon was willing to kill over..."
Peggy nodded following the steps as he did.
