Nightcloud sat in a patch of long grass and pulled burs from her pelt. The plateau was full of them and they were a nuisance. In the process see heard a cat stop, outside of the grass, behind her. She swiveled her head in alarm and saw Thornclaw standing a fox length from her, ready to run if she attacked. Why would he attack me? He can still win without me dead. Nightcloud thought. "Why are you here." Nightcloud meowed. "I-I was just wandering. I'm not here for a fight. It would be useless, considering we don't have to fight each other to win." Thornclaw replied coolly, seeming to read Nightcloud's thoughts. "Well if we aren't a threat to each other, then why don't we become a team?" Nightcloud asked. Thornclaw nodded.
The sunset faded into a dark night; the moon only a claw scratch in the sky. Icewing gazed up into the sky, trying to remember how long since the games began. It's been so long, I can hardly remember how may sunrises it's been. Icewing thought sadly. At least I'll be with Pebblefoot until the end. She thought, then remembered her last remaining kit, Petalfur. A few tears streamed from her eyes, remembering them. I have to win, for them. She padded over to the river to catch a fish. There was a flash of silver scales and Icewing purred when she hooked the fish up onto land then dealt the killing blow. She carried it back to the den and laid it down before falling back to sleep, dreaming of her kits.
