Chapter 21- Being a student (Charlie)

We sat in a workroom with a pigeon and frankly I wasn't sure I could ever find a conversation with a bird fun (they often live up to the stereotype bird-brained) but Harper made it brilliant. "Each power we have is different and it means we have to control and trigger them differently but I have an idea of what you could do," Harper said.

"Okay what?"

"Imagine you have a button it your head before you start to talk to the bird switch it on but when you get bored switch it off okay?"

"Yep sounds like a good idea."

So the bird would coo every so often, then I would translate, Harper would nod or laugh depending on what the bird had to say for itself or because of my imitation of it's nasally voice. Then as the bird entered a particularly boring rant on bird seed and its lifeless taste I switched the button off and to my huge surprise it worked and I just heard exactly what anyone else would have done.

"I did it," I said enthusiastically.

But the bird made a remark which broke my concentration and made me blushed furiously. "What did he say," Harper asked.

"Err," I stuttered suddenly finding a particularly interesting lace on my shoe.

The pigeon continued to talk gesturing at us and eventually Harper got the idea. "You two make a cute couple," he remarked.

"Err I don't really think we should go there," I mumbled.

"Yep I'm going to kick him outside," Harper said awkwardly.
