Just Say Yes

I stared down at him, my heart in my throat. He was kneeling there for nearly five minutes now, and I still couldn’t breathe. The ring was just as beautiful as his speech, and the man I love gave me both. Tears had slowly fallen down both our faces, but he stayed still. “I...” I whispered, which that one word shattered him. He frowned, slowly beginning to stand as he shut the box. “Yes.” I blurted out, locking eyes with him. “What?” He looked at me completely stunned, opening the box again slowly. “Yes. Yes I’ll marry you!” I laughed, choking a bit on the tears of happiness that now fell down my face. He pulled the ring out, tossing the box to the side, and sliding the ring on my finger. He kissed me hard but gently, pressing his hands on my face. I continued to choke out tears as I kissed him, wrapping my arms around him. He pulled back. “Thank you...” He whispered, kissing my nose softly. “I love you, Lilly...” He chuckled, brushed the tears away. “I love you too, Damien.” He lifted me in his arms, spinning me. “Okay...okay so..what do we do first?” He asked, smiling. “Well...first...we tell the mother of the bride...” I laughed as his smile faltered. But in a second, he was beaming again. “Let’s go then!” He grabbed my hand, pulling me down the stairs and out the door.

As we walked through the front door, I called out for my mom. “She’s not here.” James walked out from the kitchen, smiling. Damien placed a hand on my shoulder, holding me back. “What did you do to her?” “Whoa! That’s a blinding piece of jewelry!” He lifted my hand, which I tried to snatch back, but he held it tight. “Don’t do that sweetheart.” Damien shoved him away from me, “Don’t touch her.” “Make me.” James smiled wickedly, pressing his lips forcefully against mine. Damien grabbed him by his shirt, throwing him against the wall. James grabbed Damien by his head, slamming his skull into the mirror that hung on my wall. Damien flipped him, shoving him hard into the ground, shattering the wood floor. James swung his fist, nearly breaking every bone in Damien’s jaw. In that moment of pain, James managed to flip so he was above him. I quickly rushed and wrapped my arms under his, pulling him back. Damien stood slowly, his eyes darkening. He nearly appeared in front of us, piercing a long sliver of the wood floor through James’ heart. At that moment, I couldn’t breathe. Something hurt...something hurt so much. I dropped my arms, feeling a sharp pain in my left shoulder. I looked down and noticed that the wood had gone through me as well. As James’ corpse fell, the wood snapped, leaving half of it still in me. Damien snapped out of it instantly, staring in shock at me. This was excruciatingly painful. I dropped to my knees, trying my best to breathe. He quickly lifted me in his arms, rushing me to my bed upstairs.

As he placed me on the bed, he began to panic. He placed both hands on the end that was sticking out, and tried pulling it out. “Ah!” I screamed in pain. He quickly jumped back, tears streaming. “Lilly I’m so sorry! I-” I glared over at him, “Just get this damn thing out of me!” He nodded quickly, grabbing it and pulling it out as fast as possible. I shrieked in agonizing pain, ripping my blanket in my scream. He rushed to my side, placing on hand on my wound and the other on my cheek. “Lillian I’m so sorry...I’m so so sorry...” I smiled up at him softly, “It’s okay...it’s a good thing I’m short.” He chuckled, one of his tears falling on my cheek. “Yeah, it is...” I breathed slowly as the wound healed...slowly. “Don’t worry...I know it hurts but it’ll heal...” He sat beside me, lifting me gently to lay my head on his chest. I winced a bit, resting on him. “Just...just think about walking down that aisle in the beautiful dress you’ll wear in an amazingly decorated church-” “Park.” “What?” “I want to get married outside...” I said, looking up at him. He smiled, “Of course...well, you walk down the aisle, we say our vows, and were together forever...and we can have the reception outside...” “Why do you know so much about weddings?” “The lady at the jewelry store gave me this wedding pamphlet when I bought the ring.” I giggled, looking at him. The wound healed, but I didn’t want to move.
