Chapter Fifteen: Letting her go

Nicklaus's P.O.V

It's been a week since I've marked Arabella and things couldn't be any better. We hadn't completed the mating process yet but we have become closer then we were before. She is simply perfect in my eyes and I would rather have her instead of my hybrids any day.

Today we were leaving the cottage to go and meet up with Stephan and the others.

I sighed softly and look down at Bell who was sleeping on my chest. I smile softly and play with the ends of her hair while watching her sleep. It was still dark out so I let her sleep in since we have a long day ahead of us.

I hum quietly until my phone started vibrating on the night stand. I quickly grab it and check the caller I.D. seeing Rebekah's name pop up. "What do you want Rebekah?" I ask softly so that I wouldn't wake up my sleeping mate. "Nik, something bad's happened." Rebekah says in a scared tone that sounded like she'd been crying before she called me. "What's wrong?" I ask slightly concerned since my little sister never called me unless something serious had happened. "They know about Michael." She says in almost a whisper causing my body to immediately tense up but soon relax as Bell cuddles more into my chest and clings to me.

"Who knows about Michael?" I ask in a deadly calm voice. I keep my arm wrapped securely around Bell afraid that Michael would show up and try to take her away from me. "Elena and her friends." Rebekah said with a small sniffle causing me to sigh and take a deep breath. "Bekah calm down, they don't know where he's buried so everything is alright, I'll deal with them when I return home, for now stay calm and act like nothing's wrong, if Michael shows up call me immediately." I say before hanging up and sitting my phone back down on the night stand.

I sigh softly and look down at Bell brushing some hair out of her face. "Your my only weakness Bell, I refuse to let Michael take you from me, I love you so much." I say softly and place a small kiss on her lips before shaking her awake with teary eyes. She groans as her beautiful eyes flutter open and stare up at me with a questioning gaze. "Niklaus, what's wrong?" She asks while reaching up and wiping away a tear that had escaped my eye.

"I'm so sorry Bell, just know that I love you so much and that I'm doing this for your protection." I say then quickly start to compel her before she had the chance to talk. "I want you to forget me, you've never heard of Niklaus Mikaelson and my mark on your neck is from your mate but you can't remember who he is." I say and pause for a minute taking a deep breath before continuing. "All you remember is going on vacation with Imogen to New Orleans before you went back home, the only way you'll remember this is if I say your nickname, my sweet Bell, the only thing I want you to remember about me is that your mate loves you more than anything and will come back for you, now sleep and tomorrow you'll be in a car on your way back to Mystic falls." I say and listen as she repeats everything before falling back asleep.

I had called Imogen who yelled at me while I packed all of Bell's things and got her ready. I had put all of her bags in the trunk of Imogen's car before putting my love into the front seat. I knew that her heat would be starting soon and prayed that I'd be there for her since I knew she wanted to complete our mating then.

I silently watched as Imogen drove away with the love of my life asleep next to her in the passenger seat. I waited until the car was out of sight before letting out a cry of pain and shifting into my wolf form. Both of us were upset so we ran to where we would be meeting up with Stephan to find the werewolves and turn them. Since I'd learned that Elena's blood was the key, I needed to make an army fast just like they were doing with Michael. I could live without a doppelgänger but I couldn't live without my mate.

Arabella's P.O.V

I awoke to Imogen driving and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. "How much farther?" I ask while looking out the window at the passing scenery. "About an hour maybe more, how'd you sleep?" Imogen asked softly acting as if I'd burst out crying at any moment. "As good as you can in a car." I say chuckling before raising an eyebrow at her. "Are you okay, why are you talking like I'm gonna burst into tears at any moment now?" I ask while watching her every move to try and see what was going on with her. "Oh no reason, we just watched a sad movie and I thought you might still be upset about it." She says causally brushing off my questions which she usually did when she didn't want to answer me. "Okay." I said not really believing her.

I stepped out of the car and stretched once Imogen had parked outside of the boarding house. I grab my bags from the back of the car and follow Imogen inside seeing the gang sitting in the living room. "Hey guys." I say flashing everyone a smile before heading downstairs to start a load of laundry and get a drink.

As I was walking back upstairs I paused hearing the gang talking. "He's sending Stephan back to watch over Elena, he turned off his humanity." Damon says while someone lets out a sigh. "Why would he do that?" Caroline asks causing the room to go silent for a few minutes. I finish my blood bag and throw it away before walking into the living room. "He did it so Stephan would only care about taking care of Elena and keeping her alive." Imogen says causing me to look at her confused. "Who made Stephan turn off his humanity?" I ask causing everyone to look at me in confusion.

"Don't you remember Bella?" Elena asks while giving me a worried look. "Remember what?" I ask while Imogen shifts uncomfortably in her seat. "Klaus." Bonnie says while tilting her head to the side looking at me like I was losing it. "Who's Klaus?" I ask earning shocked looks from everyone especially Imogen.
