Chapter 9: The battle of the brothers

"Dax's POV"

"As usual you're getting in over your head." Ban said.

"What are you talking about we both know I can beat him." I said.

"Yeah yeah whatever just don't get to cocky." he said.

"Relax you know that won't happen." I said.

"Yeah I know, by the way I have a request." He said.

"Sure what is it?" I asked.

"Let's have a match just like old times." He said.

"Old times huh, does mean you'll use that?" I asked.

"You know I gave that up long ago." He said.

"Yes but someday you'll need to face your past just like I need to face mine." I said.

"Yeah yeah whatever, so are we doing this or what?" He said.

"Yeah, hey Makarov you mind if Ban and I use the arena?" I asked

"Fine but what for?" Makarov asked.

"Why a match of course." I said

"Just don't destroy the place before tomorrow." He said.

"I promise we won't." I said.

"You know if you want to stay and watch you can." Ban said.

"As much as I would like to I need to get some rest." He said.

"Fair enough." Ban said.

"I'll gladly watch your match," Gray said, "I'm quite interested in you both."

"The same goes for us." Gajeel said with Erza beside him.

"We'd be glad to have wizards such as yourselves watching our little match." I said.

"Can we watch to Dax?" Asuna asked from behind me.

"You should already know the answer to that" I said.

"OK" she said excitedly ready to see the match.

"So are you ready to start or what?" Ban asked. 

"Of course i'm ready" I said.

"Alright then let's start."

We got in our stances and readied ourselves.

"No POV"

"Allow me to make the first move ice dragon roar" Dax yelled and shot a tornado of ice from his mouth.

"You'll need to be faster than that." Ban yelled easily dodging it.

"If you want speed then I'll give it to you Dragon Slayer secret art double ice talon." Dax said as his feet turned to ice and he did a double kick.

"Shadow claw." Ban said and shadows surrounded his arms as he parried Dax's kick.

"A fist for a kick huh, that's just like you." Dax said.

"Well I try to keep it original." Ban said.

"I think it's about time you lead this dance." Dax said. 

"Gladly, shadow stance one thousand strikes." Ban said and his shadow launched toward Dax splitting into multiple shadows on it's way.

"Dragon slayer sacred art armour  of the icy dragon." Dax said and an armour of ice formed around his body, stopping all the damage.

"They counter each other perfectly, it's as if they can read each other's minds." Asuna said in aw. 

"Well it's only natural." Erza said.

"She's right they are brothers after all." Gray said.

"Which means they've been training together all their lives." Gajeel said.

"Dragon slayer divine art excalibur of the frozen dragon." Dax said and a sword of ice formed in his hand.

"Shadow summons." Ban said and an army of soldiers appeared from his shadow.

"So this is what it's come to." Gray said. 

"What do you mean?" Elaine asked.

"He's going to try and use those soldiers to tank the hit from Dax's forbidden spell." Erza said.

"It wont work though, after all the reason it's a forbidden magic is the fact that it cuts through any magic the opponent uses whether it be offensive or defensive." Gajeel said.

"Bad move bro, dragon slayer secret art shield of the ice dragon." Dax said and a shield of ice formed around his left arm.

"What you have that little faith in me." Ban said.

"Not at all, dragon slayer forbidden art ice trinity." Dax said and he began glowing, his three spells then merged to create a long sword made of ice.

"Since you're so confident then end it already." Ban said.

"Fine but you asked for this." Dax said and swung his sword downward toward Ban.

"Shield of the shadow general." Ban said and his shadow engulfed him trying to block the attack.

"That's not enough." Dax said as his sword hit.

There was a flash and when everything cleared up Ban was gone.

"What happened where's Ban" Asuna asked.

"Shadow trap." Ban said from the shadows and Dax's legs were wrapped in shadows trapping him.

"So I'm guessing you used shadow walk to get away." Dax said.

"You know me well brother and it would appear I win." Ban said

"It would appear that way, but you forgot one thing." Dax said as the shadow trapped more of his body.

"And what would that be." he asked.

"I still have more tricks, dragon slayer secret art eternal ice coffin." Dax said and a coffin of ice began forming around Ban.

"Well played." Ban said as the coffin completely trapped him.

"Same to you." Dax said as he was fully covered by the shadow.

"Asuna's POV"

I stood there amazed as the match ended, Axel couldn't even touch him and then Ban comes in and forces a tie like it was nothing, just how strong are they.

"We need to go help them." Elaine said.

"Don't worry they're both out of commission so their spells will ware off soon." Gray said.

"Never the less we should still make sure they're alright," Erza said, "after all they did just use a lot of  magic power."

Just then the spells wore off and both of them hit their knees.

"Hehe just like old times huh Ban." Dax said and looked over toward Ban who was in the same position as him.

"You better believe it." he said obviously happy at the outcome of the fight.

"Are you two ok?" I asked walked towards them.

"Of course we're ok," Ban said,"better even."

"Good to know," I said, "how about you Dax."

"Yeah I'm fine." he said as he stood up.

"If fight like that tomorrow you'll win easily." Ban said.

"I hope so." he said unenthusiastically.

"Well now that this little escapade is over you should head home and get some rest." Gray said.

"Yeah you'll need all the sleep you can get if you plan on fighting Natsu." Gajeel said.

"Alright then I'll make sure he gets home." I said.

"Ok then take care and see you tomorrow." Erza said.

With that we parted ways and went home. Ban fell asleep almost immediately but Dax stay up a little longer preparing for tomorrow. I stayed up with him and we eventually fell asleep on the couch.
