Caroline looked around before opening Bonnie's grimoire which she had borrowed from her a few days back. Today was the day she had waited years for.

"Uti diligenter dux, o ingenio pretium, non enim potest aliquis ad bonum," she read from the first page.

And now, she thought that she really should have paid more attention in the Latin class in high school.

"It means: Be careful or any being can be hurt," Bonnie's voice spoke from beind and she almost jumped.

"Geez, you gave me a scare," caroline said, placing her hand on her frozen heart - literally - to show that she had been really scared.

Bonnie stuck her tongue out in an apologetic gesture and smiled and said, "I've got it. It's time."

Caroline got up and slung her tote bag over her shoulder, keeping Bonnie's grimoire in it.

They both drove in Caroline's car and stopped outside the woods.

"Still the Lockwood cellar, right?" Bonnie asked and Caroline nodded.

They walked in a comfortable silence, comprehending and anticipating on what was about to happen in the next few minutes, as they reached the Lockwood cellar.

Caroline had requested for its use since the cellar was of no use to Tyler anymore. Him being the only living member in his family, and an old friend of Caroline's, gladly gave her the keys to the cellar without asking the purpose.

Little did he know that the cellar contained the staked and a half-alive body of an Original hybrid.

As they walked into the dark underground cellar, Bonnie said, "It's taken almost a decade for Elijah to stake Mikael, this better work."

"I know this will work Bonnie, the spell you did was pretty strong," Caroline said, remembering the spell Bonnie did the night Klaus was staked, which she had mistaken for some prayer.

"I should have bonded his soul to Kol or Rebekah, since none of them were daring enough to risk their life being near Mikael. Connecting his and Elijah's souls was a mistake but I'm glad Elijah's not dead, he was the only one risking his life to kill his father for his brother," Bonnie explained to which Caroline refrained from replying.

The excitement she was feeling as she was about to see Klaus in flesh and blood, was too much for her.

"We're here," Caroline chirped.

She pushed open a cell's door and let herself and Bonnie in.

They both knelt down near the wooden coffin and Bonnie opened its lid.

Caroline saw Klaus for the first time since he was put into his coffin some years back, after his supposed death.

He looked the same as he did when she last saw him. Frozen veins, the dried red - almost purple - blood staining his shirt, grey skin, slight dust settled on his pants, shirt and shoes. But, nonetheless, he still looked beautiful to her. Like an ancient statue.

"Caroline? Mikael's blood?" Bonnie asked her.

Caroline quickly searched through her bag and handled her the bottle of Mikael's blood that Elijah had give her.

Bonnie took it and closed her eyes, chanting her spell, then sprinkled Mikael's blood on Klaus' body.

She repeated the same three times and opened her eyes.

Caroline frowned, "What happened? Why isn't he waking up? Is someth-"

"Bl-blood," Klaus' voice cut Caroline short from her rant and Bonnie raised her eyebrows as if to say, "See? He's alive."

"Klaus," Caroline almost whispered and smiled and fed him the blood from the bottle in a jiffy.

She had definitely missed his voice, and having heard it after years, made her emotions go wild.

She was on the verge of crying.

Caroline could see the blood rushing into his veins. His grey skin turned its normal colour as he lifted his hands to remove the stake out of his chest.

Caroline watched as he did it, almost painfully and must have returned back to his senses when he saw Caroline and said, "Caroline."

He stepped out of the coffin as Bonnie said, "I'll give you two some privacy," and went out with Klaus' stake in her hand.

Caroline and Klaus saw each other and rushed into the other's arms.

"Why are you crying? I'm back now, aren't I, love?" Klaus asked her while stroking her hair.

Oh, how she had missed him.

"It's the happy tears, silly. I missed you," Caroline said and gave him a teary smile.

He gave her a heart-warming smile and brushed her tears off with his thumb.

Then analyzing her, he said, "You haven't changed at all."

Caroline gave him a full smile and wiping her tears, replied, "Long story short, I practically forced Elena into turning me after graduation."

Klaus frowned.

"Graduation? You were in high school. When did you graduate? What year is this?" Klaus asked her.

"Fast forward to 9 years after you were staked by your father. He's a real survivor, you know. Took Elijah that long to kill him," Caroline replied.

"Mikael is dead? How? But didn't he-"

Klaus was cut off by Caroline placing her lips on his.

"I'll explain everything later, now let me enjoy this. I've been deprived for a long, long time," Caroline whispered and Klaus pulled her closer to him, capturing his lips with hers.

Breaking apart from the kiss Caroline said with a small smile, "I was always rooting for Klaroline."

"What's that?" Klaus asked to which Caroline replied, "It's a twenty-first century thing," and pulled him back into a long kiss again.

In that single and a passionate kiss, the silent promises of protecting each other and never leaving again were made. And these promises were planning to last for as long as they both shall live.
