Just as quickly as Mikael came, he went away, without giving Bonnie a chance to dagger him.

Caroline's world stopped as she saw Klaus fall on the ground.

Like humans, an Original's or a vampire's death wasn't instant, it did take some time for their blood flow to stop.

She rushed over to him while Bonnie stood there, her eyes closed, chanting some kind of spell.

Probably for Klaus' peaceful afterlife, Caroline thought.

Davina and Meredith wanted to be the ones to kill Klaus with that Stake. That was why they had called Mikael. They wanted revenge from Klaus for their Quarters at New Orleans. But, now, it was simply done by Mikael. They couldn't have the stake and Klaus was already dead.

Mikael was smart, it seemed, as he knew what the witches wanted. But, he wanted to be the one to kill Klaus for his centuries olden grudge.

Davina and Meredith walked away, shaking their heads and acquiring nothing that night after witnessing the horrifying scene.

Mikael had won their battle of the stakes. The whole situation which contributed to Klaus' death, besides Caroline's misunderstanding.

Her mind couldn't comprehend anything as she held Klaus in her arms one last time.

Klaus opened his eyes filled with pain of being staked and never seeing his one true love again.

"Klaus..." Caroline began and stopped, unable to say anymore with the tears pooling in her eyes.

"It's all my fault," she finally said, running her hands through his hair.

"Sh-shh, Cah-Caroline," Klaus said, his voice low and accent fading, proving that he was lying on his deathbed, "It-It's not...your fault. It's hu-human reac-tion. Now, let...me en-joy the-the feeling...of...be-ingh in...your arms last t-time," he managed to croak out.

Caroline nodded vigorously and lowered her lips on his for the last time.

"T-tell Eli-jah th-that...I...I love him. Ev-hen Reb-Rebekh-ah and Kol," Klaus said some seconds later.

Caroline muttered a 'yes' while caressing his cheek.

She knew, there was no way to save him. Klaus had told her how a White Oak Stake could kill an Original, and no magic could reverse that.

"Good-Goodbye, C-Caroline. I l-love you," Klaus said and breathed his last

"Klaus!" Caroline screamed and it echoed through the forest.

She rested her head on his chest, her tears saying his already blood-stained shirt, and her hands clutching it tightly, refusing to let him go.

Caroline laid there, with Klaus till the dawn and Elena, Stefan and Damon finally came looking for her with her mother, the sheriff of the town.

Caroline's mother questioned Bonnie who was sitting some distance away, watching Caroline mourn the death of her beloved the whole night long.

Caroline knew there was nothing anyone could do to fill the hollow hole in her heart caused by Klaus' death. He was her first, and she had intended on him being her last.
