"How's that connected to me being here?" Caroline asked, feeling weaker than before."Simple, you are the bait," Davina said in an emotionless voice.
Caroline gasped, but it ended with her coughing.
"But Elijah-" Caroline started, her voice now coming in pants, but was cut of by Davina.
"I know Elijah said you could trust me. I never denied that. But I won't think twice before using anything or anyone as a bait where my coven is involved," Davina said.
"Oh, you so need to," Klaus' voice startled Caroline and Davina and they looked at the source.
Klaus was standing some distance away and Davina folded her hands over her chest.
"Took you long enough, but, finally you came. I was worried that you didn't care about her," Davina stated.
Caroline wanted to differ but she felt clouded by her thoughts in her current state. She felt her eyes closing as fatigue coursed through her, but she forced her eyes to stay open and listen.
"If you wanted to talk to me, you could've just asked me," Klaus said, kneeling down besides Caroline.
She looked at him with weary eyes and gave him a weak smile. He ran his long fingers through her hair and put his arms around her, and pulled her closer to him, a gesture Caroline found very comforting at the moment.
"Looks like I chose the right one after all," Davina muttered and continued her conversation with Klaus, "I always try, don't I? But you've never listened to us."
Caroline wondered who was included in 'us'.
"There was no need to bring her into this. This has nothing to do with whatever stupid request you witches have been pestering me with," Klaus said, intertwining his fingers with Caroline's.
Caroline felt Klaus jerking away from her and she frowned at the distance. She gasped at what she saw.
Klaus was on his knees, his head buried in his hands and he was wriggling, tossing his head from side to side as if he was in pain. Terrible and horrible pain.
"Stop! Just stop, Davina! You're hurting him!" Caroline begged Davina.
Davina was working his magic on him. She was offended for sure.
Caroline knew Klaus was immortal, that he couldn't die no matter how hard anyone tried to kill him. But that didn't mean he couldn't feel the pain.
Caroline stared wide and teary eyed at the scene in front of her. She couldn't even do anything to help him. Not being a vampire sucked for her.
"You...naïve...foolish...teenage girl. You...actually...thought that...you could...overpower...an Original?" Klaus asked Davina, laughing humorlessly between the caused pain.
Why was Klaus provoking Davina further? Sometimes, Caroline thought he was just stupid.
"I'm no longer the abnormal sixteen year old witch living in a church attic at New Orleans. I'm a normal teenaged girl living in Mystic Falls with way too strong supernatural abilities, which you seem to be forgetting at the moment. And, if you really think that I'm a naïve and foolish little girl, then you should look at yourself," Davina looked between Klaus and Caroline and continued, "I consider you as a thousand year old paedophile, but do I say anything? Nope. It's none of my business. So, I suggest you fullfil our demands and we'll never come near her or you."
Davina stopped her magic and Caroline was relieved. She had nothing to say about the witch's remark as she slowly crawled her way to Klaus and held his hand while caressing his cheek.
"I'll think about your conditions," Klaus said at once, while catching his breath, and Davina rolled her eyes.
"Fine, but remember what I- oh, wait. She said," Davina smirked and Caroline felt anger radiating off Klaus.
"Just go away," Klaus said and Davina put her hands up in surrender as she walked away.
"You okay?" Caroline asked Klaus, checking his face.
"I should be the once asking that," Klaus chuckled.
"This isn't funny, Klaus, she could've hurt you seriously! You need to-" Caroline was cut off by Klaus' cold lips on hers, and just like that all the tension inside her went away, taking the exhaustion, fatigue and pain with it.
