All adult amphibians are carnivores. Some specie may adapt to feeding on dead prey, meat, tinned dog food or even commercial pelleted diets. Raw meat must be supplemented with calcium (10 mg per gram of meat). Captive amphibians should be fed two to three times a week.

Adult frogs and toads

· Feed on insects such as fruit flies, crickets and mealworms, pinhead crickets are a great choice for both babies and full grown toads that remain very small.

· Large toads will also eat mice. (should not be feed this too often as are fatten)

· If being fed on insects should also receive calcium and vitamin D3 supplement in the form of a prefeeding/gut-loading powder for the insects or a dusting powder to prevent metabolic bone diease.

· They are not fond of vegetables

Aquatic species

· May also eat fish or prepared fish diet.

Salamanders

· Eat earthworms, bloodworms, slugs, insects and prepared fish diets.

· Larval stages are herbivorous and feed on algae initially, or food sprinkled on the water.

· As they mature, aquatic prey (small crustaceans such as the water flea (daphnia spp.) and then large insects or animals are eaten.
