Alexander sat in his study rereading and practicing his eulogy over and over again until he got it one hundred percent perfect. A quiet tap on the door startled him.
"Come in." He whispered, the sadness obvious in his voice.
"Alexander, we need to get going. The funeral starts soon." His wife, Eliza said. Alexander nodded and got up out of his chair. He went over to Eliza and wrapped his arms around her. The two of them walked out of the study hand in hand.
Alexander was extremely quiet on the way to the cemetery. Laurens was one of the first and best friends he ever had. The two of them did so much together. Alexander still couldn't believe he was gone. He held the paper tight in his hands. He would do whatever it took to not burst into tears while reading the eulogy for his best friend.
When they got to the cemetery, Alexander saw a familiar face coming toward him.
"Monsieur Hamilton!"
" Monsieur Lafayette." The two friends shook hands and went over their eulogies together. A few minutes later, Hercules Mulligan joined them. Alexander missed his friends, but without John Laurens it wasn't the same. When the service was starting, the three men and Eliza gathered around. When his friends were called up to speak, Alexander reminisced all of the memories that the four men had together trying so hard not to cry.
"Now I would like to ask Alexander Hamilton to come speak in honor of John Laurens." Alexander stood up and walked in front of the crowd. He cleared his throat, then began.
"Good afternoon everyone. My name is Alexander Hamilton. Today we are here to remember the life of my best friend, John Laurens. When I came to New York, John was one of my first friends. Actually he was one of the first friends and best friends I have ever had. If I never met John, my life in New York would be so much different than it is. John was a person that I could tell absolutely everything to. When I met my wife, John was the one I went to and explain everything about her. Without him, it's going to be hard. He was honestly the best friend I have ever had. He taught me so much in our short time of knowing each other. I will follow his example and be a kind and fun person just like him. Goodbye dear friend. You will never be forgotten."
