It has been a week since I saw Matty and I was wondering if he was trying to avoid me. I mean, why would he? Our relationship is strong and stable, did I do something wrong?
"Hey this is Matty, you know the drill."
"Matty! Where are you? I tried to call you a thousand times, call me back! ASAP." I left his dumb phone a message but I knew he won't even bother to listen to it.
"Hey Y/N. You ready for the kickoff?" Jake appeared next to me at our lunch table.
"Hey, yeah well I'd be a hundred percent ready if I could get hold of Matty. Which makes me think, have you seen him?"
Jake took a bite of his sandwich, ignoring me. He knows something. "Jake Rosati, where-"
"Hey, guys! This kickoff thing is starting to get under my last nerve. I walked by the field and they made me take off my shoes, how horrible is that?"
I roll my eyes, she always has something to say. That's what I love about her. And, apparently, I wasn't the only one. Jake and Tamara have been PDA-ing for the past two weeks leaving Matty and me pending.
Jake still hasn't answered my question. "Jake-"
"What babe? You need a soda, I'll get one."
"Alright, T. What do you know about Matty?" I questioned her with a serious look.
"Whaaat? I-I don't know anything." I look at her raising one eyebrow. "Fine, the only thing I know is that he's been staying over at Jake's house for a week now. And, he refuses to come out. You should go see him."
"Thanks, T, that's all I wanted to know. And, I'm going right now."
"But, Y/N, you'll miss the kickoff, and do you know how much time it took me to organize it?"
"T, Matty needs me and I've been blind for a week on why he completely shut me out."
"Fine, go. Text me the dets."
I hurried into my car and drove to Jake's place. Matty's truck was out in the driveway, and the lights just went off. I rapidly park in the street and run towards him.
"Matty!"
"Y/N, what are you doing here?"
"You're avoiding me," I sigh. "You can't seem to find a minute to answer or reply to any of my calls or text?"
"My phone's dead," he shrugs and walks towards the door.
"Dead for a week? Come on Matty what's wrong?" You ask, making him turn around.
"Why d'you ask? Nothing's wrong. I am fine."
"Matty, you've been living with Jake for a week. Clearly, something is wrong and by the way, I know you. You can't lie to me."
He sighs, and his eyes were getting red. "Nothing's wrong."
That's when I realize what was going on because it happened to me once. "Something's wrong maybe with your parents, adoption, I don't know."
"What are you talking about?" He asks furiously. I hit the point, and it breaks my heart to see Matty like that.
"Stop, I know the signs."
"Why would you know anything about that Y/N? You have a perfect life." And, now that hurt me. On how blind he was.
"Matty, I know because I was adopted too. I found out 6 months ago," his expression changed from anger to guilt.
"What? I'm sorry, how come you never told me? God, I'm such an idiot, where was I? Actually, don't answer that. Y/N, I- I don't know what to say."
"It's okay, I'm over it and you'll be too. I'm here if you want to talk, I'll understand." He smiles and nods. His arms reached out to me and held every inch of my frame.
We went inside.
"First, how did you find out?" I ask him as he cuts out the ham and I do the bread.
"You remember Jake's video we filmed at my house?" I nod. "Sadie bumped her head, and while I was searching for the aid kit I found my birth certificate. And, the accepted order of my adoption. Plus, it was in the garage."
My eyes widen. "Why do parents hide their stuff in the garage? My paper was hidden in a small box under a tire and I opened it while my dad was behind me!"
"No way! Parents," he laughs and seems to think about something.
"Y/N, thank you. I'm sorry again for leaving you alone in hard times. It won't ever happen again, I promise. And, you were right it did feel good to talk to someone about it. Especially when that someone is my girlfriend." He kisses my cheek, taking a bite of his sandwich after.
Minutes later, I heard ringing. I looked at my phone, but nothing.
"Hello? Yeah, she's here. And, I'm fine now. Oh no, take your time. We'll take ours. Alright, see ya man." He hung up and smirked at me. I slap his arm. "What the fuck was that for babe?"
"I thought your phone was dead."
"Oh, I said that? Oops," he leans in closing the space between our lips. "I love you."
"I love you too, Matty."
