They arrived at the circus just as it was starting. The place was almost packed full, so much so that Annabelle and Nathan had to stand along with a group of people. Little kids were laughing and playing with some toys they’d bought, one was a faceless man and another was two twins that were attached together. “Weird toys.” Nathan said. Suddenly the lights turned towards the center platform as the Ringmaster stepped out. The music wasn’t normal circus music however; it was slower, more evil circus music. No one paid attention, however, when the Ringmaster introduced the first act.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” He started, a cage being brought into the ring by two helpers. “They don’t look to happy.” Annabelle said, “They look, scared.” “Probably stage fright or something.” Nathan said. “The first act can be startled very easily, so please, give it a moment to adjust before taking any pictures.” The cage was opened just then, and the crowd gasped as the creature came out. “Let me introduce you to, Birdman!” The creature looked like a hybrid between a human and bird. It had a human head and hair, but instead of a mouth it had a beak. Instead of arms, he had wings, and instead of feet, he had talons. Everything else of human. Everyone stared in shock for a moment before some started to laugh and some were repulsed by the sight. The creature walked to the edge of the stage, and squawked.
Everyone jumped. People began to take pictures of the animal then. Nathan looked at the Ringmaster then. The black skin around his eyes was now purple, but his eyes were covered. He got a creepy feeling of the man, but before he could think anything of it the birdman was put back into his cage and the next act came up. “I think he looked scared.” Annabelle said. “He looked scared, and in pain.”Everyone in the crowd was anxious to see what was next. “The next acts are more human than last, I assure you.” The Ringmaster started. “That being said, there is no need to worry about startling them.” He laughed. The cage opened and two people emerged out of it. A small girl and a man.
The crowd looked disgusted at the man. “The male is called Pigman, for reasons you all can see.” The Ringmaster said. The pigman was all normal, except for his face, which looked exactly like a pot-bellied pigs. The fear in this creature was more obvious, for he didn’t venture too far from the cage. One of the people helping to move the cages had to stab him with a stick to make him move further so people could take pictures. Some of the people in the crowd saw this and looked confused. “Do not worry, much like an elephant Pigman here has tough skin, he felt no more than a slight pinch.” The Ringmaster said, noticing the amount of suspicion in the room. Everyone turned their attention to the girl then, who was hiding in the cage. “My my my, isn’t someone a little shy tonight? Will someone please help her out?” He continued.
The other one helping to move the cage opened a back door and stepped inside. After a moment’s pause the little girl walked out, although to Annabelle it looked like she was pushed out, and the crowd gasped again. The little girl looked human, but was short and hairy, like a monkey. They had put a bow in her hair to keep the tangled mess out of her face. “These two were found together, near Canada a few years ago. We think they may be father and daughter.” The Ringmaster stated. The crowd started to shift forward then, people trying to get closer to take more pictures at closer range. The acts retreated further back when they saw the large amount of people flashing lights at them.
The girl tripped backwards, emitting a monkey like scream when she did. Some people from the crowd laughed. Nathan managed to drag Annabelle and him to the front, near the bars keeping the crowd and acts separate. The pigman looked at Nathan, and he could’ve sworn he saw him mouth out ‘help me’. The cage doors finally opened again and the two made their way into it, and the cage was dragged back to the back. “Take a break everyone, for when we come back we have a wonderful surprise for all.” The Ringmaster said, with an evil smile. “Plus, a select few will have the chance to come backstage after the show to meet the acts, up close and personal.”
