"Hazel Quinn!" mum hollered at her from her room, "Go introduce yourself to the neighbourhood!" she commanded, just like she did when they first moved to Mullingar. Why wasn't Hazel so heartbroken then? How come it hurt so much now?

James.

"I don't see you meeting anymore friends!" she spat back. She couldn't control her anger. She knew it wasn't her mum's fault that they had to move, but to America? It wasn't necessary. She ran her fingers along her homemade blue bracelet to comfort her with memories of him.

"You didn't drive us here from the airport. Now put a smile on that pretty little face of yours and go get em!" she exclaimed, trying to cheer Hazel up but failing miserably. She rolled her moist eyes and stepped outside with James' guitar tight to her body. She felt like if she let go of it, then she would let go of James, and quite frankly, she didn't want to do that just yet.

She slid down the cold brick edge of her new house, starting to move her fingers across James' guitar. She didn't have a song in mind to play, so she just started strumming random notes, trying to make sense of them in her head. Suddenly, the wind picked her white warm beanie from her head and threw it to the other side of the yard. She grunted in frustration. This meant she had to move...

She sluggishly stood up and slowly made her way over to the hat, which slipped from her grasp once again. The chase continued for about a minute of pure horrid exercise, until she bumped into an unknown body. "Ouch!" the figure winced. Hazel Quinn closed her big brown eyes in lack of luck. She honestly did not want another James moment just yet. It was way too soon for her taste. She hasn't even moved into the house yet.

"Sorry! I was just going to get my beanie...," she trailed off, hoping the stranger would just continue on her way. They stomped on the corner of the white cap, not dirtying it but stopping it in it's tracks. Hazel stooped down to pick it up, and raised slowly and cautiously. Finally she took a look at the girl's face, the emerald green orbs connecting with hers to practically shock her. Messy light brown hair was tossed atop of her head, crowding her facial features until she pushed the loose strands behind her ears.

"Hey, I'm Violet Do you live here now? Oh my gosh! Are you the new girl from like, England? Because the neighbourhood is like buzzing because of you! We're all so excited for change, and-"

WOW this girl talked fast!

"Uh, yeah! Ireland, actually. I'm Hazel Quinn," she introduced flatly. She slapped the beanie back on her head and smiled lightly at Violet. No, Hazel wasn't shy, but down in the dumps. Who wants to move away from their best friend, just to have to take the time to make new ones?

"Awesome!" She stuck her hand out to grab Hazel’s, shaking it wildly. "I walk through this yard every day to go to my friend Raelynn's house. Would you like to come with me?" Hazel sighed and closed my eyes.

They flipped open as Violet’s electric eyes hit mine hers. "Sure, why not." She supposed Violet sensed the pessimist in her voice, because she sadly smirked before taking her two index fingers gently touched the corners of my lips, dragging them up to form a cheery smile. As she brought her hands away, Hazel Quinn couldn't help but keeping her smile. Violet was really jumping into this whole "friend" thing really quickly.

As she began to skip next to her as they traveled east, Violet began to explain everything. Her poofy purple winter coat clung to her in warmth, reminding Hazel how cold she was in just a pink cheetah jumper.

"So, Raelynn has a half-sister named Callista who's a year younger than us. They have different dads, so Raelynn's last name is Bagans and Callista's is Mayle. Callista has to visit her dad every other Saturday. Also, our friend Dallas Jones is coming over. She lives right across from you!" she babbled. Hazel attempted to process all of the information with the little nine year old brain I had.
