Author's Note: I don't feel like making a better title, so I just went right out and stated that.
I stayed up all night just thinking about all those missing students. What ever happened to them? I was especially worried about Viktor. Poor Viktor. I've never really thought about this much, but know I realize that I cared about him a little more than just a friend.
It was about midnight. I couldn't sleep, so without thinking, I slipped out from under my covers and crossed the room. Was I really about to go out in the middle of the night?
Then I remembered something. The invisibility potion. I saw the bottle on my desk across the room. I quickly grabbed it, and headed out the door. I closed it as silent as I could, but it still made a loud slam.
I scanned the area around me. When I found it was empty, I proceeded down the hall. I didn't know what I was trying to find, nor what I would find.
I was nearing a fork in the hallway, when I heard a scream.
It came from behind me. I whirled around. I was staring face to face with THE GREATEST DARK LORD OF ALL TIME. Yes, You-know-who, himself.
He was holding the neck of some poor 2nd year boy. I recognized him from around the school. You-know-who gave a smirk, and disapparated to who knows where.
As soon as You-know-who left, professors, students and even Karkaroff came running with terrified looks on their faces.
As they surrounded me on all sides, I could hear lots of them murmering my name and asking others what happened.
Karkaroff pushed is way to the front of the crowd, a concerned and horrific look appeared on his face as he saw me. "I...I-" I stuttered. "Young lady, in my office, NOW!" Karkaroff shouted. All whispers came to a stop when they heard the anger in his voice.
The sea of students parted so I could follow Karkaroff down the hallway. We walked for a while before stopping in front of a tall, brown, rusted door that looked out of place next to the hallway interior.
Karkaroff pushed it open and gestured to a chair in front of his desk as he sat down. We sat in silence for what seemed like forever before he broke the ice.
"What happened?" I guess that's about as simple a question you could ask at a time like this. "Well, sir, you see, I felt strange in bed and couldn't sleep. So I got out of bed and was walking around in the hallways when I heard the scream from behind me. I turned around and... Well, you wouldn't believe me if I said it." I explained. "No, really. Try me." He pushed.
I stopped for a second, thinking about what I was about to say. I didn't even believe myself.
"You-know-who was there." I said quickly, wanting to get it over with.
"You-know-who?" He said surprised at my input.
"Yes, sir. You-know-who."
"Did you see what he was doing?"
"He was holding a 2nd year by the neck, and disapparated with him."
He looked at me. I looked at him. We sat there in silence, staring at each other, our eyes wide.
Abruptly, he called for one of the professors. When he came bursting in the room, Karkaroff said, "Send for Dumbledore!" The professor nodded and disapparated.
Almost immediately after he left, Dumbledore himself was standing before Karkaroff and I. I don't know if he noticed me or not, but if he did, he certainly didn't show it.
"Dumbledore, we need all wizarding schools on lockdown." "I shall then." Dumbledore says "What is this about?" "One of our students claims to have seen Voldemort." Karkaroff gestures to me. I almost gasp. He actually said the name! "I see." Dumbledore replies, not even acknowledging me. He suddenly disapparates with a loud crack.
Karkaroff waves his wand, which opens the door, and leads me out. He waves his wand once more, and points at his throat. He speaks suddenly with a booming voice. " ALL STUDENTS PROCEED TO THEIR ROOMS." He bellows. "IMMEDIATLY." He adds. I turn towards him and he beckons toward my door and turns and leaves. I stand there, for a second, trying to take in all that I heard, when, out of nowhere, a loud crack is heard, and I try to turn to see what it is, but realize I can't. Someone, namely, Voldemort, is holding his wand to my throat.
"Don't squirm, and you'll live." He says in his own rusty voice.
