“Here you go sweetie. Enjoy your meal” The nurse said as she placed the lunch tray in front of me and closed the door behind her.
I hated hospital food. I couldn’t wait to leave.
With a sigh, I lifted the lid from the plate and left it beside it. I grimaced as the smell of the food in front of me hit me. Soup, and judging by the smell, the worst soup of my life. I took the plastic spoon and took a spoonful of soup. Pinching my nose between my fingers I gulped the spoonful. As soon as it hit my stomach I felt the urge to puck. Resisting it, I took spoonful after spoonful.
A knock on the door distracted me from my meal.
“Come in”
“Hey” Justin’s head peeked in “How are you doing?”
“I’m about to puke. This soup gross”
He shook his head and sat down on the chair. He opened his schoolbag and —wait a minute! Schoolbag?!
“Aren’t you supposed to be at school?”
“They gave me permission to come see you, besides it’s nearly Christmas and exams are over for this year, so we really don’t have class”
I nodded and focused on my soup again.
“What does it read here?” Justin asked as I was about to put another spoonful in my mouth.
“Where?”
“Here, on the lid” He said as he took it in his hands and read it.
I focused on his thoughts intently, reading what he just read
“Don’t think you can escape from me that easily. Enjoy your meal, while you still can” Justin read.
Instantly, Justin was up on his feet and started searching for something in my tray, things flying around him as he was using his power.
“There has to be something” He kept thinking again and again.
“Something like what?” I asked him.
“I’m sure he put something in your soup” He said as he kept searching “And I’m pretty sure that something is this” He lifted the salt and opened the container, leaving a few of it on the table, pressing his finger to it and tasting it. “How much of that did you eat?” Justin asked me.
“I don’t know, half the plate”
“We have to get that out of your system”
“Wait, what?!”
“There’s no time for questions, this can be very dangerous, it’s rat poison and judging by the smell, he put a hell of a lot into the soup”
Rat poison? Everything started spinning around me. Rat poison. He tried to poison me. I felt nauseated. Oh my god. He had poisoned me. I just couldn’t register that. It kept going on and on and on. Rat poison. Poison. He had poisoned me.
Justin left the room quickly and came back second after with salt in his hand. He put it in a glass full of water and handed it to me.
“Here, drink it. It’ll make you puke, so it’ll make the rat poison get out of your system, or the most part”
I looked at the water and grimaced. “Do I really have…?”
“Come on Hale” He urged.
I gulped loudly, closed my eyes, pinched my nose and drank the entire glass of water. Instantly I felt the nauseas coming. I got up as I could from the bed and headed for the bathroom, covering my mouth with my right hand, Justin’s arm wrapped around my waist. He held my hair as I puked everything I had in my stomach. By the end of it I was pretty sure I had all the rat poison out of me. I got up from the floor and nearly tripped as my knees gave up from under me. Lucky for me, Justin caught me in time. All that puking had drowned all the energy from me. I rinsed my mouth and slumped back on the bed, exhausted.
“I think we got it all out” Justin commented.
“I know we got it all out” I muttered, my eyes closing involuntarily.
“We’ll have to be more careful from now on, who know what he might come up with”
I nodded a little and felt myself turning off, until I fell asleep.
I heard the door open and the soft snore of Justin beside me. Not woken up enough, I just read the thoughts of the person who had just come in, but I couldn’t register them. I mean, I could feel them, but there was something stopping me from reading them. I didn’t give it much importance, it was probably due to my exhaustion, and there were quite a lot of possibilities it was just a nurse. I felt him or her beside me and touch the thing-y that was hanging from beside me, the one that was injected to my hand. Yes, definitely a nurse. When he or she was finished, they left the room. And I fell asleep again.
