“So, we’ve made some arrangements” Mum told me as she opened the front door. “You’re not leaving home by your own under no circumstances”

“But mum, that is totally unfair!”

“No, it is not. They are called precautions” She said. “If you had gone with Justin to the supermarket that day nothing would have happened”

“Who knows, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have minded running over us both”

“Well, either way, you’re not leaving on your own”

“But mum!”

“We are not discussing this”

I huffed and crossed my arms over my chest. As soon as she opened the door I walked past her and took the stairs to my room. She couldn’t tell me I couldn’t leave by my own! What about when I went out with my friends? Did I have to make one of them come and pick me up? Or would mum take me? No way in hell. What happened with him was only a onetime thing. We had all changed our mobile numbers; he couldn’t get to us anymore. What was next? Hiring bodyguards? This was completely useless. He hadn’t done anything in since he tried poisoning me, why would he start now? Mum made no sense sometimes. Talk about overprotective mothers.

A knock on the door interrupted me from my thoughts.

“Come in”

“Hail, how are you?” Mel’s voice sounded as she opened the door.

“Hey Mel” I made space for her on the bed “You won’t believe what my mum just told me”

“What?” She asked as she sat beside me.

“She told me I can’t leave my house by my own” I said almost screeching.

“Mmm… Weird much?” Mel thought. “And why won’t her?” She asked aloud.

“After what happened with the accident and everything she said she wanted to be safe” I said rolling my eyes.

“But you still can hang out, can’t you?”

“Of course I can!”

She sighed in relief and thought: “She can climb down the window…”

Her thought made me smile. I could climb down the window, but my dad spent half of the day slumped on the sofa either watching TV or reading the newspaper, so it would be quite difficult to go on unnoticed. But I didn’t tell her.

“So, wanna do something now?”

“Like what?” I asked.

“I don’t know. Go to the movies; hang out in the park maybe”

“Let’s go to the movies!” I said excited.

It had been so long since I had gone to the movies. I had spent two weeks in the hospital, without anything to do. The only movies there were the ones in the afternoon that the TV channels had. And let me tell you, they weren’t exactly the ones in the cinemas. It was absolutely boring. The only good thing was you missing school, but come to think of it, I almost preferred school. Yeah, call me crazy, but that’s the truth. As soon as I was out of the house I felt a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders. Don’t know why. But it felt like that. Maybe it was because I wasn’t under the same roof as that “sweet” woman that didn’t let me leave the house by my own. And she thought that I being with Mel would be better? He threatened me with harming her if I told anyone about the messages! Way to go mum, now if he harms us, he harms two people, not just one. Good thinking, that’s how I like to call it. Note the sarcasm all the way.
