There was no relationship. No one settled down. No one spoke up and made a commitment. No Aubrey and Averie. Aubrey traveled from state to province and Averie stayed in Toronto doing what she did best, be a socialite. But she was constantly thinking about Aubrey. So much to the point she couldn't think straight. So she took up a new hobby/job. Being a stylist. Not a Kim Kardashian, Pre sex tape stylist. Someone who actually knows what their talking about and doing when they dress someone. When they tell someone what to dress, it's an accurate assertion. She knew what she was doing. And by knowing what she was doing, Averie could focus on her work. And not what new strip club Aubrey was at. Which new troubled r&b singer he was linked to. And what type of girl he wanted to fall in love with. But after reinjuring his knee performing, Aubrey was in desperate need of a surgery. It was all or nothing this time since he didn't listen to his doctor or Averie. When Averie saw what happened, the spiteful side of her wanted to let him be lonely and go into surgery alone. He needed a good lesson. But the good side of her. The side that was changing wanted to see him and help him through the whole thing. The doctor had Aubrey prepped for surgery.
Doctor: A friend of yours would like to see you, Mr. Graham.
In clicked in Averie's heels. Dressed in her typical business attire, Averie stood beside Aubrey's bed. Her attendance was much to Aubrey's surprise.
Averie (With her arms folded): How bad is it?
Aubrey: It's getting fixed.
Averie shook her head. She didn't know much to say to him. The last time they talked wasn't this civil.
[Flashback]
Averie was storming through Aubrey's condo with a bag, packing all of her things to leave and never return.
Averie: This is stupid.
Aubrey: What is?
Averie: Me and you! Why are we always back to this point where I'm in one place and you're in another? Why can this never be...
Aubrey: Perfect? Magical? Something out of a fucking TV show? Because that's not what this is. That's not what we are.
Averie: So are we you with other girls? Are we just me being the girl you're with in Toronto? Or are we nothing? (Zipping her bag) Can we just...let this go?
Aubrey: Let what go?
Averie: This. Us. This is too much to handle. Too much to deal with. Can we just...revisit this when we settle down? When I know where we're going.
Averie grabbed her bag and left. Averie wanted to fix Aubrey. She wanted to control Aubrey. She wanted to feel needed. On top. Appreciated. She wanted to be the alpha dog. That can't work with someone's rising star constantly reminding you there is no fixing. There is no controlling. There's just a slot with your name on it that can be filled. She wasn't insecure she just didn't wanna take that chance.
[Now]
There was an awkward tension in the room.
Averie: How do you feel?
Aubrey: Like you dodged a bullet.
Aubrey wasn't too shy about letting her know if his feelings were hurt or if he did have some type of negative tension towards her.
Averie: What do you mean?
Aubrey: What do you mean "what do I mean"?? You don't have to worry about me or my bum knee.
Averie: You think that's why I left?
Aubrey: Why not?
Averie rubbed her face and took a deep breath. She usually did that when she was hardening. When she didn't wanna show any types of emotion. Her lack of emotion was keeping her away from Aubrey. Far away from him.
Averie: Ummm. That's not why I left. I didn't wanna disappoint you like this.
Aubrey: Well ya did. Good job, Averie.
Averie rolled her tongue across her teeth and grabbed her jacket and walked out of the hospital room. The doctor walked in after her to start with Aubrey. She stood in the hallway panicking.
Averie (To herself): What is wrong with me?! Why I can't I get this right? Why is this so hard? Fuck!!!!
Averie saw the people in the waiting room stare at her so she turned to the opposite direction and quickly walked out. Averie wanted to show emotion for Aubrey. But she didn't know how. She didn't know how to show him the perfect emotion. The right emotion. What she didn't understand was that any emotion would do for him to show he would make the mistake a couple months later by going on a date with someone else. A girl named Loraine from LA. She made Aubrey laugh, though. She was borderline perfect. But one thing was messing with Aubrey.
He was laughing at something Loraine said when his phone vibrated in his jacket. He took it out and read the message.
[Message]
Averie: I miss you.
Aubrey stared at his phone angry and confused. Averie was doing it. She was showing him emotion. But she was so late. So inconvenient. So wrong. So missed placed. Aubrey so angry but he actually missed Averie. A lot. He wasn't really able to get her out of his head. It took a greater toll on him than he could imagine. But Loraine could be good for him. She could be so much better than Averie. So much better for Aubrey at least. Aubrey pulled a hundred from his pocket and sat it on the table.
Aubrey: Look, something came up. Can I take a raincheck on tonight?
Before she could say anything, Aubrey got up and left. Aubrey raced to Averie's condo and banged on her door. He saw her car out front. He knew she was there and she knew it was him. She went upstairs to put on a T-shirt then raced back downstairs and opened the door.
Aubrey (Angrily): Why did you do that?! What's wrong with you?! I hate the shit you do, Averie. I hate the shit you do!! Oh my god!!!
Averie: What are you talking about?
Aubrey: You! And this back and forth. I am too fucking old for people to walk in out of my life.
Averie: What's your point?!
Aubrey: You ruined my date!
Averie: So why are you here?
Aubrey (Stepping into her condo): Because I miss you too.
Aubrey grabbed Averie and kissed her.
